Protest Cheney in Davenport Monday July 16th
Relayed from my county chairman
=============================================================================
From: "Progressive Action"
Date: July 13, 2006 10:26:44 PM CDT
Subject: Citizens Protest Cheney Visit, Mon, July 17th, 4:30pm

Concerned Citizens!

VP Dick Cheney will be in Davenport on Monday, July 17th at 5pm to attend a $500 to $1,000 (with photo) per plate fundraiser
dinner for Congressional Candidate Mike Whalen, as specified in the QC Times.

If you would like to join other citizens to express your concerns about the detrimental effects that the policies of this administration continue to have on working families and others within our community:

Please join our Demonstration!

Where: Lindsey Park (11th St)
When: Monday, July 17th
Time: 4:30pm

Bring a sign (no sticks attached) that reflects the issues that you care about and please, no inflammatory statements. We want to raise the important issues that affect us to the forefront of the public discourse - we DO NOT want this demonstration to be portrayed in the press as simply being "anti-Cheney." Yes, we want accountability, but we do not want our message around the real issues to be derailed by inflammatory rhetoric.

For more information about this demonstration, contact Caroline Vernon at 563-676-7580

This is what democracy looks like!

2. If Cheney looks at us
He will undoubtedly be flipping us off behind the dark glass of a limo.

3. I was there and my wife too.
It was a hot day but it was a good turnout. Some decent press coverage. Met DUer Bluzman there.

9. One more thing about the walk

The police were confiscating...wait for it...flags on sticks. The reason? No sticks allowed. And to top it off, a photographer from the QC Times got a picture of it and got detained briefly, as well as having his camera confisticated briefly. Nope, no facism here. To be fair, the Chief of police here in Davenport apologized to the photographer and he got his camera and film back. In fact, the picture is in today's paper, on the editorial page. I haven't looked to see whether or not they put it up on the website yet. If so, www.qctimes.net. Most likely in the editorial page.
on edit- I just went to the aforementioned website, and the picture I am referring to is not there. It is in the print edition however.

10. The polizei also wanted to take my flag pole (a curtain rod)
which was obviously a sinister weapon. They said you can't "go up there" with it. I said I didn't want to go up there and decied keeping my pole and flag which makes the peace flag very visible was worth more than seeing Cheney slinking away from the fundraiser (if anyone could see Dr. Death Darth Cheney at all with his tiny approval ratings). The police should have been indignant at having their time wasted by guarding such a toxic scumbag. The press got several pix of me but used none of them WQAD did have brief video which showed my wife and her peace sign. It was worth coming down to the QCA and shows we are are both winter and summer activists.
