Four Democrats Buy Early Iowa Information
"Four Democrats eyeing the 2008 presidential nomination have slapped down $50,000 each for access to the Iowa Democratic Party’s electronic voter information file this year," the Des Moines Register reports.

"But the names on and off the list of earlybirds include some surprises." John Edwards, Sen. Chris Dodd, Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and Mark Warner all paid to get the detailed list of Democratic voters at the reduced price. But Sens. Evan Bayh, John Kerry, Russ Feinfgold and Joe Biden along with retired Gen. Wesley Clark and former Sen. Tom Daschle all took a pass.

"The list is seen as a valuable tool for prospective presidential candidates in Iowa, where success in the caucuses is often tied in part to a campaign’s ability to organize."

1. Dodd... hmmm
That's interesting. Some of the others, I think, are still testing the waters and haven't made up their minds whether or not to dive off the board. When you look at it from that standpoint, they won't necessarily need the list until next year and while the price will likely go up they might still experience a small savings over the cost of purchasing both years.

2. It's all about groundwork and getting heavy hitters on board early
Odd that Vilsack would need the VAN. You'd think he'd have a rolo-dex or something :P
