Is Nussle going to run for Gov?
Supposedly this was heard on a radio station in Waterloo. Anybody else heard this. I can't find anything on the web about it.

1. In the Bizarro World, I suppose he'd make a great candidate....

As House Budget Chairman, presided over record deficits.

Voted against extending hate-crime protection against gays.

Just generally leaving a trail of slime everywhere he goes.

4. Good, lets start digging up some dirt on him for ammo...
I'm tired of playing nice. You know damn well the GOP hate, fear, lie & cheat machine is already primed and ready to go.

3. Hes' taking the first steps at it....

But Nussle is now marching steadily toward a run for Iowa governor - an office few members of Congress have held - and is working feverishly to expand his network.

Still months away from a public decision, Nussle is traveling the state and aggressively courting key GOP activists, including those who supported 2002 nominee Doug Gross, a Des Moines lawyer considering a second bid.

5. If you heard any of his last campaign
it was all in praise of the Iowa legislature for holding down taxes etc. Strange, because he was running for US congress against Bill Gluba. Nussle sounded like he was running against Vilsack.
I am sure he could be a great governor in the footsteps of Branstadt.
One thing we must understand - if he is elected once he'll be re-elected over & over. So we must stop the cancer before it starts.

6. Yep, and if GOP national gets into the picture it's going to get messy
I spent some time in SDakota this summer and they did a pretty thorough job on Daschle. I'm all for cleaning Nussle's clock.

7. For more details I have some info
go to www.qctimes.com and click on news. Then click on Iowa/Illinois. There is a pretty good article on this very subject concerning how the fund raising has already begun.
Here is an excerpt from the article.
Nussle Sets the pace for '06 Run.
Committee to collect funds for Governor's race
"U.S. Representative Jim Nussle R- Iowa, filed papers Thursday to take donations in the event he runs for Governor.
In a statement, Nussle said he formed the committee, called Iowans for Nussle, because he has recieved more than $750 in contributions.Iowa law requires that a committee be formed if more than that amount is raised"
My qusetion is, if he isn't running for Governor, why doesn't he return the money? It seems pretty clear that he is indeed planning to make a run for Governor. He must be defeated and sent back to Manchester.

8. please, please get active now
Don't wait. Get with your local affiliates and help get the voter roles up to date etc. Iowa cannot afford to have this idiot as governor.

9. I found this info. about Nussle running on MyDD - includes some of his dirt
"IA-01 becomes likely pickup in '06 - Nussle to run for Governor
by laddy

Jim Nussle (IA-01) has filed his paperwork to raise money for his likely run for Governor in '06. This will likely to mean he'll vacate his seat in what should be friendly Democratic turf. The seat has potential to be a pickup, as Gore won the district 52-45, and Kerry won 53-46.
Just a little background on Jim Nussle: he's chair of the House budget committee which helped Bush crash the budget in last 4 years and now he's intent on bringing his fiscal policies back to Iowa. He's also one of the members of congress who recently helped tuck a provision into the omnibus bill that would allow him to transfer $333 thousand dollars from his Congressional Campaign Committee to his Gubernatorial Campaign. Most recently he voted to essentially gut the House ethics panel to protect Delay, himself and other Republicans with ethics investigations in the future. He'll continue to chair the Budget committee and most likely raise money for his campaign account because of his chairmanship since Iowa has no contribution limits. Can anyone say reform?"

The Republican Gubernatorial primary should be crowded and promises to be dirty, though Nussle should be considered the favorite in the primary because of his stature int the Republican party and a threat in the general since he hails from Democratic Eastern Iowa.

It definitely sounds promising. I'd love to pick up a Congressional seat and kick his ass in the Governor's race.

Who would run for his seat?

10. Good question. "Who would run for his seat?"
Bill Gluba was the Democrat who ran against him in '04 and has said that he intends to run again. There are a few people around here who have a few reservations about him, but he is most certainly a fairly well known person, not only because of his recent candidacy, but because he has experience in the Iowa state legislature and he is a very successful local real estate agent. His name and picture are on "for sale" and "sold" signs all over Davenport and Bettendorf. He carried Dubuque last time and will no doubt do so again. So I would say that he may be the best bet for Dems. There is a guy named Mike Whalen who is considering a run for the seat as a republican, should it become vacated. Whalen has no political experience but is a very successful businessman and will have the RNC backing him because he is currently on a task force with president bush examining how to kill...er I mean overhaul Social Security. For those unfamiliar with him, think Heart of America Restaurants. He has a nice little empire going for himself in about four states, maybe more.

11. YES - DMR - Nussle announces intent to run for governor
http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050107/NEWS09/501070364/1056/NEWS09

U.S. Rep. Jim Nussle became the first Iowa Republican to take formal steps toward running for governor next year, filing documents Thursday announcing his intent to seek the 2006 Republican nomination.

By filing a statement of organization with the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board, the Manchester congressman can raise money and spend it on staff, office space other costs related to running for governor.

"Congressman Nussle has spent a lot of time since the election traveling the state," Nick Ryan, Nussle's campaign manager, said. "He'll be doing stuff like that and really attacking the areas he's not as well known, continuing to meet with activists and opinion leaders and line people up. So far, the reception's been great."

Although the eight-term House member from eastern Iowa is the first in his party to make an official move toward a 2006 run, others who are expected to seek the nomination can organize without extra paperwork.

12. Seize the Opportunity, Dear Friends! Hustle against Nussle!
OMG. At last we will get Nussle out of our hair. He has misrepresented our congressional district for almost a generation and we have NOT been able to unseat him though we came close about 6 years ago. His strength is constituent service and his base (I finally figured this out) is strong because of all the elderly who come to his Town Hall meetings where he devotes nearly all the time to having his staff with him to answer all sorts of little questions they have mainly about how they can get money for this and that and getting a bit more on their SSI etc. They are worried people so he does well by appearing to help them. And he can also thus avoid answering in detail any major policy questions. He's a clever bugger. The rest of his base are the usual repuke suspects. The only way to take him out is to get Dems to register GOP for the primaries and concentrate on voting for someone who is popular like good old Bob Van der Plaats. And hustle a little in advance so Nussle will have to spend a lot of his $$$ in an unfriendly primary and get some worry lines on his sleek face. This tactic worked well against Gross and Ganske. And it gives Dems a chance to vote TWICE against the repuke candidates they loathe the most.
