Who is going to run for Governor in 2006?
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 05:17 PM by slim
Mike Capuano is probably going to run.

Who else?

Who do you want to win?

federal seat to open? But then again what better way to the U.S. Senate than to have the corner office seat? I wouldn't rule Coakley out . . .

Staying w/ the ladies for a moment longer . . . How about Shannon O'Brien? Is she done?

Anyone else?

edited to add: Mittens Romney is toast. He displayed his religious cards. Massachusetts doesn't appreciate mixing religion in its politics and law. No way! Send Romney back to his legal domicile = Utah!! Or some damn other red state.

4. Is Reich's economics too far to the left? That's a question, not
a statement. Because I truly don't know. I'd have to research Reich more in order to settle those issues.

7. They, typically, do not *do* Massachusetts state politics . . .
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 06:26 PM by TaleWgnDg
that is, not since Rose Kennedy's father, Honey Fitzgerald, was mayor of Boston. I cannot see any Kennedy take a run for Governor.

edited to correct the spelling of James J. "Honey" Fitzgerald, who is maternal grandfather of Ted Kennedy and JFK

but he wasn't interested.

BTW, I like Robert Reich--that's who I voted for in the primary last time.

10. Tom Reilly will definitely run
I've liked him as an attorney general, and from what I've gleaned from the GLobe & the Phoenix he's a sure thing to run in 06.

13. I've been thinking about this for a few days now,
both hearty Dems and less political people. For some reason, the less political people I talk to wanted Tom Menino to run. I don't know about that, but...

My brother was home for Thanksgiving, and a bit more in the know. He likes Reich, after all we need someone big like Reich ;-) to kick Romney back to Utah, or Michigan, or what ever state he's now claiming to be from.

The funny thing he was at a party later that night and one of his old friend, who was also a Dem activist, asked him the same question that i had just asked him earlier that night. His friend suggested Tom Reilly, so the debate goes on.

My I'm not sure who I'd support yet, was a huge O'Brien supporter in the last primary, until she let us all down with that stupid Tattoo remark during the debate. I'd like to see who steps forward before making a decision this time.

Though Reich is starting to look good...I look up to Reich :D

14. Capuano and Reilly as of now
Capuano has a great message about what it means to be a Democrat;if you have the chance to see him at an event it is well worth it to go.
He looks like he'll take the fight to the repugs.

I haven't seen Reilly in person;I'd like to compare him to Capuano.

16. How did Romny ever get it in the first place?
I was in Korea so I wasn't following closely...all I heard was 1) tatoo; 2) looks bad on TV; 3) some technicality about abortion and south boston voters, none of which should make o'brien lose the election. I think maybe people are scared of giving the entire show to one party? I mean, legislature, courts (though I do think they're pretty indpendent), our entire Congressional delegation...DAs, sheriffs, gov council, most city councils, PTAs, etc, etc...

I mean, isn't it kinda bad to have just one party do the whole thing? Could 06 be the year of the third party? Maybe an anti-spending-more-on-big-dig platform?

17. I don't think it was so much the Tattoo remark itself.
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 06:09 PM by Longgrain
Though it did make O'Brien look bad, it was more the media spin after wards. O'Brien was polling well before the debates, but the media made it look like Mitt-the-Fitt could do no wrong and that O'Brien was a buffoonish oaf. While she did goof up, I admit, it gave her so much bad press in the media, so close to the election, that she was unable to recover.

There was also a strong showing from Green voters too, I'm not one to blame every failed campaign on the Green party, but they did sort of get in the way.

BTW, I'm not sure if I give in to the entire checks and balances meme that goes on everytime a repug wins up here--not wanting one party to run the entire show. I think it's more political apathy, rather than conscious decision making--people just don't bother to check out the issues.

Besides, the state Leg. has much more power than the governor in MA, though unfortunately, most of the state Reps. from my part of the state are DINOs.

I thought I'd heard that Lynch was anti-choice. And I don't want an anti-choice MA governor. After * decimates Roe v Wade, it'll be up to the states to protect reproductive rights.

My God. We are one of the most heavily Democratic states in the damn country, yet we can't seem to elect a Democratic governor! If we could just get the Dems in the state to actually vote Dem, then the landslide victory would be almost laughable.

21. Agreed, agreed, agreed!
Any Dem would be better. But we need to enlighten the un-enlightened first.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing there's too many people around these parts that are still wary for voting for a Dem Gov since Dukakas. Not to mention that the Dem candidates so far have been pretty weak.

Harshbarker? (I know I spelled that wrong)I can't even remember what he looks like.

O'Brien? Loved her at first. It should have been a cakewalk for her, albeit a sticky one. But she blew it once Mitt put on his snake charmer suit.

Which is, I guess, the initial question of this thread... Who should we run...Who can we run?

24. My sentiments exactly,
This time I'd probably lean toward Reich, but I'm open minded and would like to see who steps up first. The primaries could be pretty fierce, they were last time around, but maybe with a little Dem unity and a good strong candidate, we can get the ball rolling early and unseat the carpet bagger in the State House.

Here's to hope.

And has some big time support...

http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2004/12/04/key_fund_raisers_back_reilly_bid/

According to the article, Capuano, Galvin, and Gabrieli are also seriously considering bids...

I'm still hoping for Reich to throw in his hat, but I looks like the race is starting...
