Feds to sue Ma. over oil spill law??? |
|
Saw this on a news crawl this morning (sound turned down) but after extensive search I find nothing about it, 'course I know the media IS pretty darn busy what with the chimp's coronation and all.
My hunch is bushco going after environmental legislation enacted after the Buzzards Bay barge disaster, wonder if anyone can add to that with maybe a link if ya know of one. thanks.

1. A fight with big oil was anticipated - Mitt said he would defend law! |

The new state law can force vessels traveling the coast to navigate "a mosaic of changing rules and make transporting oil more dangerous and costly", per the tugboat, barge and tanker lobby groups.
And the two industry groups, the American Waterways Operators and Intertanko, have Jonathan Benner, of Washington, D.C., as their lawyer saying "There is no question the law is illegal at the Federal level - the USSC did not make a special exception for Massachusetts."
Mitt says the law works in harmony with federal rules, not in conflict with them, and that states such as California, Rhode Island and Washington have enacted similar bills that have passed legal scrutiny.
