OK, who wants to do a God Hates Shrimp protest?

God Hates Shrimp

Shrimp, crab, lobster, clams, mussels, all these are an abomination before the Lord, just as gays are an abomination. Why stop at protesting gay marriage? Bring all of God's law unto the heathens and the sodomites. We call upon all Christians to join the crusade against Long John Silver's and Red Lobster. Yea, even Popeye's shall be cleansed. The name of Bubba shall be anathema. We must stop the unbelievers from destroying the sanctity of our restaurants.

Leviticus 11:9-12 says:
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

Deuteronomy 14:9-10 says:
9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:
10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.

11. The fig-based argument (I'll treat it seriously, why not, the kid's
asleep and I can't do much else) relies on Jesus cursing one fig tree.

Presumably, if the Pharisees and that particular bush were still around we'd be avoiding all figs because we might accidentally get one from that bush. But it's dead, almost certainly.

It's the same argument that says "the Jews" as a whole killed Jesus, or maybe "the Romans" instead of a small set of them.

I therefore speak for all figs everywhere when I say that figs should have equal rights too.

13. Yep, and the chunks of Deuteronomy and Leviticus quoted
are the exact same ones cited at the godhatesshrimp site (which was forwarded to me by a member of one of the churches believing this, even before I saw it on DU).

(Full disclosure: I was in such a church for many years, and even though I used to love shrimp and blue crabs--never much liked oysters or clams, and refused to let food snails near me. I still find them all gross to this day, many years after leaving the church.)

They also avoid, although less often, mixed fabrics (simply because it's hard to find linen clothing, much less linen with wool), and don't much farm, but one or two that did didn't mix their seed. And they keep Passover (with bread and wine), not Christmas, and do a thorough job pitching out leavening before Passover.

Consistent. Very much so. Makes a lot of arguments with them difficult.

We could also do it outside Old Country Buffet on a Sunday afternoon.

I also thought about dressing-up as Amish and protesting outside a church demanding that they stop using electricity.

Part of the point being that the Amish are convinced that all non-Amish are damned to Hell, but they don't make asses of themselves trying to tell us non-Amish what to do.

But I figured it wasn't worth it to risk upsetting the Amish.

I'm in the middle of researching Old Country Buffet to see if they are Democrat or Republican.

If they're Democrat, I'll suggest protesting elsewhere.

Old Country Buffet is a big after-church destination.

This sunday, check out the local restaurants and look for someplace with a whole lot of women wearing big hats.

Applebee's International, Inc.
Rating: Dark Red - 6 %

I am pretty sure Appleby's gets a big after-church crowd

Second choice is Outback Steakhouse, but I don't know if the church-people go there.

Outback Steakhouse, Inc.
Rating: Dark Red - 2 %
http://www.buyblue.org/detail.php?corpId=26

On the other hand, if we did Outback, we could also hold signs that say:

"Outback Steakhouse is Spreading Santorum."
http://www.SpreadingSantorum.com

Just what people want to think about before they eat.

See:

Political Money Line reports the following information about Santorum's March trist down to Florida to appear with the Schiavo family and then raise approximately $250,000.
http://mysite.verizon.net/lardil/id189.html

Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) reported raising $104,500 from individuals and PACs in Florida during the first three months of 2005.

<snip>

About $42,000 of the 3/31intemized donations came from the Miami area, possibly from a 3/29 dinner in Miami.

Tampa itemized donors on 3/31 over $6,000 including $3,000 from the PAC of Outback Steakhouse. These may have come from a 3/30 luncheon in Tampa hosted by Outback according to news reports. The PAC had already given $5,000 in January.

<snip>

The second part of the question is who exactly paid for the fundraisers, since one imagines they require some money for food, rent, etc. It seems implausible to me that Santorum met a group of high dollar donors at the local Outback Steak House and walked table to table collecting checks and shaking hands while each donor picked up their own dinner tab. If someone else paid there would have had to been in-kind paper trail filled out for the events. When a candidate goes somewhere to raise money there is usually a long paper trail of expenses for the event, which Political Money Line explains don't exist on this trip.

Besides, we want some place that gets a whole lot of church traffic.

To sum up, here is what we need:

1) Shell fish
2) Church people
3) Republican-owned company

I'm thinking now maybe IHOP, but their donations to the Republicans are very small (less than $3,000).
http://www.buyblue.org/detail.php?corpId=216

In any case, think of places that get a whole lot of church traffic, and we'll research sites from there.

I couldn't find any political donations for them, one good and one bad.

First, the good: The CEO, Charles F. Sarkis, donated books to the needy.

Now, the bad: The CEO, Charles F. Sarkis, is the principal share holder in The Westwood Group, which owns the Wonderland Greyhound Park in Revere, MA
