"Liberal" Boston Globe's 8/10 Sheehan coverage
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 11:28 AM by paineinthearse
I used the Globes on-line news search engine for word "sheehan". http://search.boston.com/index.jsp?title=c&summary=c&byline=c&body=c&source=All&collection=today&queryStr=sheehan
The results:

"sheehan" matched 0 document(s). The results appear below. To get the full text of a story, click on the headline. If you did not find what you're looking for, try searching again with a different term.

No documents matched
It appears that no stories matched your query. This may have happened for three reasons:

NO MATCHES
You may have accurately entered a query, yet The Globe published no stories that matched that query. You may want to try searching for something else using the form at right, or try the Globe archives, which contains Globe stories from 1979 to the present.

BAD QUERY
If you want to refine your search or alter the phrasing so that it is more focused, you can do so at right.

RIGHTS ISSUES
It may also be the case that an article did run in The Boston Globe's print edition, but is not online. That is the case with some freelance writers and correspondents to whose work we do not have the electronic rights. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to post those stories on this web site. The only way to read them is to contact the Globe's reprint department at (617) 929-2000, or view the Globe on microfiche at your local library.

We hope this information has been helpful. If you need additional assistance, please refer to our help area, or contact us at any time.
Thank you.

4. Reply from ombudsman
Last week, on day 4 or 5 of Cindy's vigil in Crawford, I used the Globe's search feature for the prior 24-48 hour period and got no hits of articles, so I sent a message to the ombudsman asking they provide some coverage.

Here's the reply:

Greetings again and thanks for your note. I did my own search of Globe
archives for "Cindy Sheehan" and this is what I found. If you'd like the full text of stories, let me know.

Regards,
Richard

CRAWFORD, Texas President Bush said yesterday he sympathized with a woman who
lost a son in Iraq and who has been leading a protest vigil near his ranch but that he would not pull US troops from Iraq prematurely.

"I grieve for every death," Bush said as Cindy Sheehan remained camped out
about 5 miles away. For six days she has been demanding Bush meet with her
about her son, Casey Austin Sheehan, an Army specialist killed in combat in
Baghdad in April 2004.

So by the date of my note, the Globe had one news article (and the op-ed, not mentioned by the ombudsman).

I thanked him and offered assistance for contacts "on the ground" at the peace house, should they wish to do a phone interview.

Hub protesters stand with dead vet's mom
O'Ryan Johnson

We're here for Cindy.

That was the message yesterday as about 150 protesters gathered on the Boston Common in a show of solidarity with Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a dead Marine. Sheehan is camped outside of President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, waiting for the commander-in-chief to explain to her in person why her son was killed.

"Mr. Bush can't hide forever," said Rose Gonzalez, whose own mother is serving with a National Guard unit north of Baghdad.

Protesters wore stickers that featured a picture of Sheehan over the words, "I support Cindy."

"Why did you make this war?" asked Paul Brailsford, 89, of Ipswich, a World War II veteran of the Merchant Marines. "Did you make it for oil? Let's get one big cheer for Cindy."

Former Navy officer Bruce Macdonald, 58, of Billerica, a member of Veterans for Peace, just returned from Texas where he joined Sheehan.

Sheehan, 48, of Vacaville, Calif., set up camp last weekend on the dusty road a few miles from Bush's ranch, and the group with her has now grown to more than 100.

Macdonald described her as "one courageous mother, one committed woman."

The sign he held called on the Massachusetts congressional delegation to also meet with Sheehan.

"I think if she is entitled to get answers from President Bush, she is entitled to get answers from the legislators as to why they voted in favor of a war that sent her son off to Iraq to be killed," Macdonald said.
