Stephen Lynch will take part in high school military recruiting event
Hello Alliance for Democracy Members: We're forwarding the following message on behalf of Alliance for Democracy supporter Bill Haff. Please pass it on to anyone you think will be interested.

Please distribute widely!

Hello 9th District Peace Activists:

Word is out that US Representative Stephen Lynch (US 9th District) will take part in a high school military recruiting event on Sunday September 11th at the East Middle School in Braintree. The event is obviously timed to help establish establish a connection between the 9/11 terror attacks and the illegal invasion of Iraq.

You have probably heard the Pentagon is also organizing a tightly-vetted "freedom march" in Washington DC on September 11th. The fact that a Massachusetts Democrat with a background in organized labor is coordinating with a Republican publicity stunt is deeply disturbing, to say the least. Community peace groups have already begun discussing possible protest actions. This email is part of a general effort to spread the word about these developments.

Time and place:
Sunday, September 11th, 2-4 pm
East Middle School
305 River St, Braintree, MA 02184

I spoke to Lynch's Boston office today, and they told me the event will specifically focus on what high school students need to know to apply to US military academies like West Point, the Naval Academy, etc. There will no doubt be references made to the threat America faces since 9/11, and the strong military that the US needs to combat terrorism.

Please pass the word. It would (by the way) be highly desirable to find labor unions and Democratic Party officials who would be willing to join forces with us.

1. Woah there, time-out.
First of all, do you know how many service academy requests EVERY Congressman gets each year? This happens all the time. It's not recruiting - it's making sure the people who want to apply to the SERVICE ACADEMIES have the correct information. Why are you so eager to eat a Democrat?

3. Any DINO that shills for war does not represent me.
I find it interesting that this is the same date as the Pentagon's Walk for War rally in DC.

My BS detector just went off:

4. Your BS detector is broken.
It is the duty of every Congressman to nominate a constituent to each of the service academies. It's pretty much the only way you can get into them. It would be an extreme disservice to his constituents that actually do want to go to these academies if he didn't make a nomination or inform them how to obtain this nomination. That is NOT shilling for war, nor is it connected to any Pentagon propaganda. Perhaps you should learn how things work before you rail against them.

7. I am no fan of Lynch's by any means.
He is a black mark on my home state's otherwise pristine delegation. However, I call a spade a spade. What you are criticizing him for is wrong. Period.

8. Well, we agree to disagree.
I respect your opinion, but - the 9/11 - high school recruiting is wrong in my book. It's sending the wrong message to our kids; I view this 'visit' as the Mass. equivalent of the Pentagon's 9/11 March for War.

Peace.

2. Lynch. What a loser. I remember a campaign commercial of his...
... back when he was first running for the seat.

He looks into the camera with big phony doe-like eyes and talks about how he donated a kidney or something to his brother.

Says it was the hardest decision he ever had to make.

:wtf:

What was there to decide? Was, "Sorry bro, guess you're a goner" really a possibility? What an ass.

5. Stephen Lynch? the neo-conservative? THAT Stephen Lynch?

.
I'd love to see Southie and the rest of the 9th U.S. congressional district get its act together and heave Steve Lynch!

Lynch cannot seem to separate his religious convictions from the law as well as pinching his own legal (attorney) ethics to empower his own political career. Lynch isn't a Democrat but for his labor stance. Oh, geezuz, his labor stance! (I grew up w/o a pot to piss in, had to work in labor and put myself thru law school, yada, yada, yada.)

For example (some snippets):

*TEN COMMANDMENT DISPLAY, June 15, 2005, voting 242 for and 182 against, the House on June 15 barred the U.S. Marshals Service from enforcing a federal judge's order that a Ten Commandments display be removed from the Gibson County, Indiana courthouse lawn. In January, the judge ruled the display "in violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution." (a vote "yes" was to stop the enforcement of the federal court order; a vote "no" was to enforce the federal court order): Massachusetts: voting yes, Lynch. voting no, Olver, Neal, McGovern, Frank, Meehan, Tierney, Markey, Capuano, Delahunt. (Since when does congress step in to "over-ride" a federal judge's order? To not obey a federal judge?)
(BosSundayGlobe, "Thomas Voting Reports," p. A18, June 19, 2005)

*FETUS VIOLENCE Voting 254 for and 163 against, the House on Feb. 26, 2004, passed a bill (HR 1997) giving a human fetus "at any stage of development" the same legal rights as its pregnant mother when a federal crime is committed against the mother. Beginning with conception, it would have standing as a victim if it were harmed during a violent crime, just as the mother does. Judges could impose extra punishment for the fetal crime but not the death penalty. A vote of "yes" favors this bill; a vote of "no" is opposed to this bill. Voting No, Olver, McGovern, Frank, Meehan, Tierney, Markey, Capuano, Delahunt; voting yes, Lynch, Neal.
(this bill is a backdoor attempt to override Roe v. Wade)

*HEALTH WAIVER EXCEPTION Members on June 4, 2003 refused, 165 for and 256 against, to add an exception to HR 760 that would permit the disputed abortion when it is deemed medically necessary to protect the mother from serious health consequences. This went beyond a waiver in the bill to save the mother's life. A yes vote backed a health waiver exception. Voting yes, Olver, McGovern, Frank, Meehan, Tierney, Markey, Capuano, Neal, Delahunt; voting no, Lynch.
(Another anti-Roe v. Wade, chipping away at it.)

*MINOR'S ABORTION: Voting 270 for and 157 against, the House on April 27 passed a bill (HR 748) making it a federal crime to transport a minor to another state for an abortion to circumvent a law in her home state requiring parental notification or approval of the abortion. A vote of yes was to pass this bill. Voting no, Olver, McGovern, Frank, Meehan, Tierney, Markey, Capuano, Neal, Delahunt; voting yes, Lynch.
(This is another anti-Roe v. Wade bill.)

*GRANDPARENTS, CLERGY: Voting 177 for and 252 against, the House on April 27 rejected a Democratic amendment to exempt grandparents and clergy from the criminal sanctions and civil liability imposed by HR 748 (above, Minor's Abortion bill). Voting yes, Olver, McGovern, Frank, Meehan, Tierney, Markey, Capuano, Neal, Delahunt; voting no, Lynch.
(This is another anti-Roe v. Wade bill)

*The House TERRY SCHIAVO BILL: Stephen Lynch was VERY outspoke about "upholding" Terry Schiavo's "rights" and voted with the rightwingers. Lynch stayed in Washington, purposefully for this Schiavo fiasco, as the rest of the Massachusetts congressional delegation went home on the recess.

*another anti-Roe v. Wade vote by Lynch: HOUSE AMDT 209 to HR 1815 (2005): Amendment sought to allow military personnel and their dependents overseas to use their own funds to obtain abortion services in overseas military hospitals. Vote "yes" would allow privately funded abortions at U.S. military facilities overseas. Representative Stephen F. Lynch voted NO. House Amendment Vote: 5/25/2005: Amendment Rejected: 194-233 (Roll no. 216).
http://www.vote-smart.org/issue_keyvote_detail.php?vote_id=3531&can_id=BS022888
(This means that Lynch believes that military funds should not be used for abortions for military personnel and their dependents overseas; AND that abortions should not be allowed EVEN IF military personnel and their dependents use THEIR OWN MONEY to pay for abortions at military hospitals overseas. Does this mean that a military female must revert to back-alley-abortions while serving overseas? Unreal.)

And here's more:

4.) Stephen J. Lynch, interest group ratings, vote-smart.org civil rights (note the Human (gay) Rights Campaign rating is only 88 during last year's congressional session, 2004)

In summary, did you note that Lynch usually stands alone in the Massachusetts congressional delegation with his off-the-wall social conservatism? And, these are not isolated instances, for Stephen Lynch votes his religion against women's issues including related abortion issues, and end-of-life (Schiavo) issues. He's right "up there" with social conservative (rightwing) Tom Finneran, ex-Speaker of the Massachusetts House. I remember when Steve was merely another Massachusetts pol (not Congressman) when he volunteered his attorney services (for free) to some Irish male teenagers who had severely beaten an Hispanic kid in Charlestown's "projects." This was a political media move on Lynch's behalf, because these teenagers would have had public defenders for free. Lynch got his media coverage on that one (wink, wink, nod, nod)!

It should surprise no one that Lynch is hiding behind George W. Bush's 9-11 rhetoric shilling for the military to snare young Braintree high school kids into military service. Did you note the date on the calendar of this military recruitment? It's 9-11!

Hey, Southie and the rest of the 9th U.S. congressional district, vote this b*stard OUT! Get rid of Stephen Lynch!

Can anyone answer if this is the only event in the nation, or if there are others, and, if so, who is the overall sponsor?

12. Event POSTPONED to October 2
Received by email from Smedley Butler.

9/11 Demonstration - CANCELLED - RESCHEDULED 10/2

ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION

The 9/11 Military Academy Presentation hosted by Congressman Lynch has been cancelled, and rescheduled for same time and same place for SUNDAY - OCTOBER 2, 2005.

Hopefully the group can shift presence to that date. I will again call for yes/no with respect to attendance.

I am impressed by the commitment of Citizens for and Informed Community, who were going to join us. It was offered that they would be willing to set up demonstration in South Boston at Congressman Lynch's house, and would follow our lead. I have talked with several of the members, and I am reluctant to recommend this course of action without further discussion with the group. Congressman Lynch lives in the Heights area, and wounds are even still raw over all the activity in that area during busing. Also, as you know it was not all peaches and cream when we marched in South Boston on St. Patrick's Day uninvited - we could provoke reaction, and I am not sure all realistically understand that. I am going to try and meet with Citizens for Informed Community in an effort to assess our mutual capacities and strengths for future support. I personally would be willing to commence a vigil, but that must be ongoing! , and again would need substantial commitment.

Again - briefly - the event for Sunday 9/11 has been cancelled and rescheduled for 10/2. Will see you then. Thanks all - Tony Flaherty

13. Event is on again - Sunday, October 2, 2PM
Please assemble at the East Jr. High School, 305River Street Braintree between 12:30 and 1:00 PM - Sunday Afternoon - October 2nd

The Seminar starts at 2:00 PM. However, the military used to be on time, so I would expect them to be setting up by about 1:00, and people will probably be arriving from 1:00 on, so I would like to see us in place with signs and leaflets between 12:30 and 1:00 PM.

This is an information seminar hosted by Congressman Lynch for high school students interested in the Service Academies. All the Academies will be represented there and will make presentations and take questions. Hopefully we can get the Congressman to answer a few.

DIRECTIONS: Take Exit 17 off Route 3 South. It is the first exit heading south after the split. If heading north from south, take Exit 17. You will see Hilltop Restaurant on right going south.

If coming from the North - take exit 17 and then the 3rd right onto Union street. You will leave a Sunoco Station on your right. Immediately across from the Sunoco Station you will see your first left - Cleveland St. Take Cleveland. Cleveland turns into Middle street, and then take your second right onto River St. all the way down to a deadend parking lot and the school.

If coming from the South, take exit 17 and then your 1st right onto Union St. You will leave a Sunoco Station on your right. Immediately across from Sunoco Station you will see your first left - Cleveland St. Take Cleveland. Cleveland turns into Middle St., and then take your second right onto River st. all the way down to a deadend parking lot and the school.

When you turn onto Cleveland it is approximately 6/10ths of mile to River St. on your right.
