Wiretap mosques, Romney suggests

Pushes gathering of intelligence
By Scott Helman, Globe Staff | September 15, 2005
WASHINGTON -- Governor Mitt Romney raised the prospect of wiretapping mosques and conducting surveillance of foreign students in Massachusetts, as he issued a broad call yesterday for the federal government to devote far more money and attention to domestic intelligence gathering.

This might upset me If i didn't think Romney was just a lame duck who's going to lose the primaries when he tries running for President in 08.

Statement on wiretapping Mosques

Monday September 19, 2005

Statement by Mass. Democratic Party Spokesperson Jane Lane Regarding Governor Romney's Refusal to Apologize for Heritage Foundation Remarks

“It is incomprehensible that Gov. Romney would refuse to apologize today for the offensive and un-American statements he made earlier this week suggesting that the United States government should be wiretapping mosques and monitoring foreign students. The Massachusetts Democratic Party stands in solidarity with our Muslim friends throughout the state who are understandably outraged at his remarks and we join them in demanding an apology from the governor.
