Reclaiming Democracy

Eli Pariser, the campaigns director of MoveOn, a grass roots Internet advocacy group, is sometimes known as the master of on-line organizing. Currently MoveOn has more than 3 million members. Now 24 years old, Pariser has been profiled in the New York Times Magazine, Money Magazine, Details, Mother Jones, and other publications, and has appeared on every major cable news channel and television network.
Moderated by Susan Shaer, executive director of WAND (Women's Action for New Directions), and president of the Ford Hall Forum.

Name an issue that has captured Washington DC's and the country's attention in the last 4 years and Pariser and MoveOn have been involved. From presidential politics to the media to US military involvement in Iraq, MoveOn has mobilized its membership. In an era where big money and big media tend to dominate, MoveOn has brought ordinary people back into the political process. Pariser has directed MoveOn's campaign against the Iraq war, tripling the member base in the process, and was one of the co-founders of the ad contest Bush in 30 Seconds. MoveOn?s political action arm is funded mostly by people who give less than $100, yet in the 2004 campaigns they raised approximately $11 million. Pariser talks about his work, the state of democracy today, and what lies ahead.
