BOSTON -- State Rep. Brian Knuuttila announced Tuesday he is leaving the Statehouse before the end of the month to become the new legal counsel to Worcester County Sheriff Guy W. Glodis.
"It's with a deep and profound sense of friendship and respect that I leave this great chamber," said Knuuttila, D-Gardner, during a phone interview Tuesday. "But it is with equally great excitement that I look forward to this new opportunity."
Knuuttila will start his new job on Oct. 24, leaving his seat open until the state holds a special election. His salary will start at $75,000 and will be reviewed in a few months.
"It looks like people will have campaign signs in snow banks, unfortunately," Knuuttila said.
The date of the special election will be announced in the coming weeks, said Kim Haberlin, spokeswoman for Speaker of the House Sal DiMasi, D-Boston.
