DFA Meeting cancelled - Tatnuck Bookseller Closes Doors
Date: Wed, 4 Jan 2006 07:31:21 -0500 (EST)

Your Organizer, Steve Consilvio, sent the following message to
the members of The Worcester Democracy for America Meetup Group:

Tonight's DFA meeting has been cancelled due to the closure of
the Tatnuck Bookseller.

One of the things I wanted to discuss tonight was the game
Monopoly, which is based on the economic theories of George
Henry. According to Henry, a system of "rents" eventually
results in bankruptcy. Tatnuck is a perfect example of how the
currency shifting plays out so that one person eventually ends
up with all the money. (Amazon, Borders, Barnes & Nobles
survived, but one of them will eventually fail, too.)

I have some disagreements with his theory, but Monopoly shows
that even in a "pure" system capitalism implodes. You end up
with a bunch of empty houses and hotels that nobody can afford
to live in.

You can read a brief biography of Henry George here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_george

If anyone has a suggestion for a new venue, please let me know.

Thanks, and Happy New Year to everyone.

Peace,
Steve Consilvio

Tatnuck's website (http://www.tatnuck.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp) indicate that their Westborough store will remain open ... for those who know the area, the store is located on Lyman Street (perpendicular to Route 9) in Westborough ... i have no idea why they closed their Worcester store ...

also, just FYI, Border's also closed their Framingham store (next to Shopper's World and next to Barnes & Noble) ... there are rumors about a possible reopening at a new location but that is unconfirmed at this time ...

finally, check out the "Acoustic Cafe" hosted at Tatnuck's ... here's some info on the next event:

Store Events - January 7, 8:00 PM
(http://www.tatnuck.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp?s=storeevents)

Time: Saturday, January 7, 2006 8:00 PM
Location: Westborough
Title of Event: Acoustic Cafe

Acoustic Cafe Continues with Britt Sawdon. Her acoustic stylings include covers of James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, Sting, Eric Clapton and More! So come in enjoy a fine cup of organic coffee, some chocolate cake and the musical stylings of Britt Sawdon
