Springfield YWCA fights Union
From my inbox

Dear Workers Rights Activists,

Members of United Auto Workers Local 2322 at the YWCA ratified a contract in
May 2005 that they had bargained with the management. The YWCA is now
refusing to sign and honor it.

Unfair Labor Practice charges have been filed against the YWCA resulting in
a complaint being issued and a hearing date set for January 9 in Springfield
at the Federal Court Building.

YWCA management is said to have spent upwards of $100,000 in lawyer's fees
fighting the workers' rights to join a Union. We think this is a poor use
of funding and are asking the United Way to look at how the YWCA has spent
funds they have given them.

If you agree that the YWCA should not spend precious resources fighting
workers' rights, then please call director Mary Johnson at 732-3121 or email
her at mailto:mrj@ywworks.org and tell her to sign the contract.

If you don't think a charitable organization should spend money fighting
unions please call Joel Weiss at the United Way of Pioneer Valley at
693-0210 or email him at mailto:jweiss@uwpv.org and tell him so.
