Reilly Spin
Reilly Spin (0.00 / 0)
It appears that Patrick is sweeping caucus after caucus all over the state. There is really no common ideological thread. He is sweeping in Swansea, Stoughton, Rockport, Northampton, Watertown, Plymouth and on and on.

The Reilly spin was that these events are dominated by the "Liberals" so that Deval will do well. That may be the case in some parts of the state, but the same cannot be said in places like Stoughton and Medfield.

Patrick has apparently set the grassroots activists on fire. Bush may have taught us that you can win by appealing to your base. If that's the case, Patrick may be on to a formula for victory.

If the victory is as widespread as it appears, will there be a drumbeat for Reilly to withdraw?

1. Is it Patricks "appealing to your base"/"formula for victory"....
or does his success have more to do with Reillys blunders and stupidity that is the reason for the sweeping victories?

Reilly is damaged goods... he couldn't run for and be elected dog catcher right now.

2. Patrick's campaign all inclusive
Deval Patrick's campaign is run by John Walsh who, even though he worked hard to get Kerry nominated, was nice to every one - DFA, MoveOn, Clarkies, etc. Patrick said he chose Walsh because he wasn't cynical about politics. He was realistic. Walsh is not flashy but he knows how to run an old-time Dukakis style grassroots campaign for governor and he knows people who have been working on the local level since that long-ago time. He is also open to new technology. The Patrick campaign's state of the art web tools for organizers will be a model for campaigns everywhere.

Deval Patrick himself is a trouper. The carpenters who supported him were shocked that when they spoke with him about their problems with non-union contracters, Patrick said, "Show me." He put on a hard hat and they took him to a site where it was happening. And what's more, he incorporates what he has seen and heard first hand into his evolving vision for the state. At every event, large and small, where I have heard Patrick speak, the audience raves about his ideas AND his delivery. You can't get ideas across if your audience is nodding off. His wife Diane who I heard once is also an incredible and warm speaker.

And Patrick didn't just woo the progressives. There are many old timers and even elected officials who are excited that they have finally found a candidate who is appealing enough to win back the governship. Some of the Beacon Hill regulars who have lost touch with town committees and have ignored progressives and, to some extent their old time supporters in the unions, are surprised by the buzz Patrick is creating. But those of us who are in the trenches know the grassroots are sick and tired of losing because the powers that be decide to run one of their own for governor, no matter how lame a candidate he/she is.

Massachusetts is supposedly the bluest state. So why haven't we had a Democratic Governor since Dukakis? Either these pols don't want a Democratic governor or they don't know what they are doing.

3. I'm with you
I'm not a lefty democrat at all, as a matter of fact I've been accused of being a sellout and moderate more than I can say by some of my friends. I support Patrick all the way, the way he answers questions, his engagement with the issues, the way that Reilly seems to be framing it is that we are a bunch of fringe, loony tune, activists, so screw him. Until about three-four days ago I respected the AG, now he's just another joker trying to push aside those Dems who work hard to get Dems elected on all levels of gov't

4. bwahahhaahaaa!! "Getting on the ballot was our goal from the beginning"
Dear Friend,

I am writing today to thank all of you who have gone out and supported me at local party caucuses around the state. Based on the returns so far, we have already earned the support we need to guarantee a spot on the Democratic primary ballot.

Getting on the ballot was our goal from the beginning, and I am pleased to report that we achieved that and more. In fact, we did significantly better than we had expected in a number of communities, including victories in places such as Boston, Chicopee, Holyoke, Everett, Leominster, Fall River, Lowell, Methuen, Carver, Dighton, Dedham, Westwood, Marion, Middleborough, Sutton, and Norwood.

I know that peoples' lives are busy and the weekends are even busier. I can't thank you enough for taking time out from your busy schedules to participate in this important process.

Now, the real battle begins -- the battle to earn the support of a broader group of Democrats, independents, and Republicans. My vision for Massachusetts speaks to the needs of everyone in this state. It focuses on growing our economy and creating jobs, on fiscal responsibility and reducing taxes, on making healthcare more affordable, on improving our schools and making UMass a world-class institution.

Massachusetts needs proven leadership, someone who knows how to tackle the difficult issues and get results for ordinary families. That's who I am and that's the Governor I will be. I look forward to sharing my vision throughout this campaign. Together, we are going to get Massachusetts moving again.

Let's keep the enthusiasm going right through the convention in June, the primary in September -- and most importantly, the general election in November.

5. What a sad little man
So sad, so sad... and since there's still people pissed about the Billy Bulger incident, I'd keep quiet about UMass if I were him.
