can anyone post a link to the rule about "late entry" candidates?
i checked the Mass Party's website and read both the charter and the by-laws but couldn't find any reference regarding a petition of 500 signatures from "elected convention delegates" ...

does anyone know if this information, i.e. this rule about Gabrieli's late entry, is available online?

btw, i have a call into the State Party and have asked them the exact same question ...

3. Working on it . . .
The rule was copied from a message sent out by Kate Donaghue, a member of the Dem. State Committee who really knows her stuff, to a Yahoo Group she is involved with. She is ALWAYS reliable. I also looked online at the Mass. elections and Mass. Dems sites. I was unable to find a link to the applicable source document so I emailed Kate to ask if she could send me the name of that document and where it might be located (e.g., library, state party headquarters, etc.) or, preferably, a link to an online source.

I can verify that these are the same rules Kate emailed me.

7. thanks, janalfi ... just read that site ...

it's interesting that those rules make numerous mentions about just plain old delegates; they make several references to "certified" delegates; but they make one very clear and specific reference to "elected" delegates when addressing the issue about petitioning "after the deadline" to be included on the convention ballot ... Roosevelt, the guy who shouted down a member of the audience at the last convention and displayed incredible arrogance in doing so, is the guy who "interpreted" the rules ... i wonder which candidate he's supporting??

i also read that very unprofessional post by Cyndi Roy ... nice attitude, eh? "enough is enough" sounds a little like "how dare you peons question us" ...

she can't be very good ... look at the second post she made on the blogspot page you cited ... i wonder if she's ever considered proofreading her work ... anyone can make a mistake but to leave this on the homepage of the blog since Feb. 6 is pretty poor ... Cyndi wrote:

Turnout was phenomenal- an estimated 35,000 Democrats particiapted in their communities.

to be sure, there are more important issues here than mere proofreading errors but a pro just shouldn't make errors like that ... perhaps the tone and poor reasoning of her comments on the Gabrieli debacle are to be expected ...

5. Title of rules document
I think you are right. The rules are not online

The title of the document where the requirements for candidates for endorsement are enumerated is:
"RULES OF THE 2006 MASSACHUSETTS DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION"

Here's the portion I posted previously:

II. ENDORSEMENT PROCEDURE

A. For a candidate to be eligible for endorsement he/she must:

1. Be qualified by law to accept the Democratic nomination for the office in question;

2. Be otherwise qualified by law for the office in question;

3. Have filed notice of his/her intention to seek that office in question with the Democratic State Committee 120 DAYS PRIOR TO THE DATE OF THE CONVENTION by 5:00 PM or have presented to the Democratic State Committee, 10 Granite Street, Quincy, MA. 02169, a petition for endorsement containing the signatures of five hundred (500) elected convention delegates not later than 5:00 PM 45 DAYS PRIOR TO THE DATE OF THE CONVENTION. In the event of the withdrawal or death of a candidate for one of the constitutional offices who has filed before the aforesaid intention deadline or an otherwise unanticipated event, the Chairperson of the State Committee, may extend the deadline. Every candidate shall file with the State Committee ninety days prior to the convention proof of compliance with the filing requirements of state law and, a statement whether he/she supports each provision of the most recent national and state party platforms and charters, the reasons for any disagreement, and the alternative policy he/she will support instead. The Democratic State Committee will distribute to all pre-registered Delegates before the Convention a list of all candidates. Candidates may distribute at there cost, their statement to Delegates if they wish, and the State Committee will use reasonable efforts to make the statements available to Delegates if the candidate makes financial compensation to the committee for same. The name of any candidate who fails to file such a statement and proof of compliance with filing requirements on time shall not be placed in nomination before the Convention.

Since you know Kate, write her directly for your own copy of the whole document. She didn't mention where the document was available in print form and asked me not to forward it without notifying her first. I would assume, maybe wrongly, that you could call the Mass. Democratic Party headquarters and they would send you one.

It seems odd that it is all so sub rosa, eh? Sort of like the Illuminati or something :>) Maybe we should change our name to the Grand Knights of Democracy.
