Went to 'Proposed Service Tax' meeting this Morning |
|
As I am in a service related business, I felt it necessary to attend. I understand that the State of Michigan needs to find future sources of funding. As revenues related to declining manufacturing decrease, and service related jobs increase, it seems natural that the state would look at the potential revenue. The speakers expressed fear that the bill would be passed in a lame-duck session after the election. Only one of the panel of speakers was a Dem (Paul Gieleghem). The rest were pompous ass Repubs who insisted on blaming the state's problems on Granholm, even after admitting (without mentioning John Engler's name) that Proposal A was rushed through in a lame-duck session 10 years ago, and after admitting that Rethugs in the Michigan Legislature (majority) agree with Granholm. In the second part of the meeting, audience members were allowed to get up and speak about the issue, being warned by the host not to turn it into a political forum. The first gentleman, a man I assume was in his sixties, got up and started his speech by ranting loudly about Ted Kennedy! You remember him, (D-Massa-CHUSSETS?) That is when I left.

governors around. My husband grew up in the Detroit area and still has family there. August 2003 we flew there, arriving the morning after the big black out. It was quite an adventure. We listened to her press conference as we drove from the airport to our hotel, arriving literally just as they got their power back.
I hope the Republicans change the law about being born a citizen, thinking it will get them a President Schwartzenegger. Only it will more likely get us a President Granholm.

2. We could impose a tax on Walmart sales, and balance the budget. |

Granholm is a great Governor. Our budget mess was created by Engler and the Republican Legislature that still remains. They provided ZERO leadership when it came to cleaning up the budget mess. Granholm provided all the necessary leadership. The legislature should hang it's heads in collective shame for failing to even try to do their jobs.
