Kerry Rally at Macomb Comm. College!
Went to the Kerry Rally at Macomb Community College.

My friend's and I just missed getting into the auditorium where Sen. Kerry was to speak - they cut the line off with about 100 or so people in front of us.

Those of us that were behind the cut-off point were ushered into a much smaller auditorium. We were all pretty bummed - no video screen, and only a couple of small speakers. We could hear Jon Bon Jovi singing, and other dignitaries giving their speeches, so we all just sort of hung out and listened. Next thing we knew, in comes Senator Kerry to shake hands and greet us before giving his speech! It was great!!!

Can't wait for this man to be the next President - he's gonna rock!!

:bounce:

2. Good for you AFSCME girl!
Glad to hear that you got to see the next President of the United States. And that was great of Kerry for not forgetting anybody who stayed to hear him. He's going to be a great President.

Sonia

10. I was in the "mosh pit"
There were two stages, one where Bon Jovi and the other speakers appeared, and the one Kerry was on. It was jam packed there. Originally, it was meant to be the red ticket area for staff and elected officials, but they opened it to the blue ticket holders in order to fit more people in the building.

5. we were there too!
in the gym where Kerry came into to say ... well, who knows if he said anything? you could not have heard him over the cheering! you may have seen us - we were in the crunch up front shaking Kerry's hand :-)

did you stay to listen to the speech? the quality of the speakers they had wired into the room was not very good. plus, i can hear Kerry speak on tv, and see his face at the same time, so we decided to leave after his brief appearance. but it was totally waycool, wasn't it? i loved it when he blew kisses to us!

8. That is WAY cool.
I spent most of my time in line thinking that I wasn't going to get in. It was a great surprise when I DID get in. Sounds like Kerry made it up to those of you who didn't!

9. Just a bit of a critique...
After two hours and 45 minutes or so in line we got inside the fieldhouse with not too much room to spare. It was great to be there, but it was sad that so many people didn't make it in.

An outside venue--somewhere where everyone could have been--would have been so much better. We heard the fieldhouse capacity was 10,000. So the count had to be a lot more than that--considering the line.

IMO, the color coded tickets SUCK. Unless you're involved locally with the campaign or a local involved union--you get stuck with having to print off the internet variety. If you work hard for the campaign, but have to travel a few hours to get to the rally because you live out in the hinterland--you get the third class tickets. It just doen't seem right. Of course I'd rather be there than not... But I feel bad for the people that traveled a long way and never got near the door.

11. I put my photos online
Warning - This page probably takes a bit to load if you're on dialup. It's got some pictures from Macomb, and also some other rallies.

13. Hi AFSCME girl!
The softball game was in Taylor in August. Most people left right after he finished speaking, but we stayed and watched the game, which was fun - the crowd thinned out so much by then it had more the feel of a small town game.

I'll be poll monitoring on election day at Grand River somewhere in Detroit, so I won't see you then - but I'm glad to hear you'll be working there. :D

I can't believe how many people are taking part in making the election happen, it's overwhelming to me.
