"Michigan pulls same-sex benefits from contracts" |
|
http://www.freep.com/news/mich/samesex2e_20041202.htmI hope everyone who voted for Proposal 2 "not to take away anyone's right, just to define the traditional definition of marriage" is happy.

When I read that headline this morning, I felt nauseated. At my office, a state-sponsored university, we received an email prior to the election telling us that the outcome of the vote on Proposal 2 would not affect the same-sex benefits that are currently part of contracts. But now I'm waiting to see what happens.
I do wonder, though. Those people that voted for Proposal 2, maybe this IS what they wanted? Maybe they really do support this discrimination. It makes me sick to think about it, but these people, many of whom I know, may have have intended this. They aren't all stupid. Ignorant, yes, but smart enough to understand the potential consequences. That really pisses me off.

3. Amazing. Second class citizens for life. |

Unless the courts overturn this law. (fairly likely I've heard) I believe the recent actions by the Governor actually remove the same sex partner benefits from existing state contracts.
