The best political talk show on television:
The show is called "Off the Record". It's hosted by Tim Skubick on Michigan Public Television. I watch it on Sunday morning at about 11:30 a.m. on Detroit's public TV station.
Skubick is the Godfather of political reporters in Michigan. He appears on TV, on the radio, and in newspapers, and has been doing so for years.
I've been watching his tv show for I don't know how long. The show has a "round table" format where Tim sits at a table and chats with about three other journalists. Most of the others are regulars chosen from a small pool to appear on the weekly episode. A couple of the journalists are kind of pompous, but all of them are excellent journalists - something that is sadly missing from the national political talk shows. Peter Luke is the best of the guests. Of course, there's that one lady I'm on love with. Beauty and brains...
The gang will spend the first 15 minutes talking about Michigan politics generally, and then their special guest will join them for the final 15 minutes.
Then something incredible happens: The politican sits down, and answers several questions from the journalists. Amazing...

If you have an interest in Michigan politics, then you should definately watch this show. Seeing journalists ask probing questions of a politican is an incredible thing to see these days. They ask follow-up questions, they pry, they get answers. It's incredible.

1. I agree and disagree
I am sure Skubick has a great show. We had him as our guest speaker last May at our Truman Dinner. He was a bit lame but the point where he lost all credibility with the crowd was where he insisted that the media was fair and balanced with Bush.

Unfortuantely he spoke after we ate and it made me feel ill. Guess who won't be asked back to speak in GT County again.

2. I've only been watching him for about twenty years
so I can't comment as to whether the sentence you heard him utter defines his entire career.

3. It was more than one sentence

I found him to be woefully oblivious to the relationship between the media and the right wing. Very shallow too on why he liked Bush over Gore in 2000, Bush was more the kind of guy you'd want to go have a beer with. Ugh. And this was all in his guest speaker stint at our Dem event.

He came off as a kool-aid drinker that night so I'm wary. If you'd like to try to marginalize my impression feel free. Whatever gets you through...

4. I like Flash Point w/ Devin Secilin (sp)
The guy seemed pretty neutral in my eyes. I like his show, especially during the elections. His roundtable discussion was hilarious I thought.

5. Actually, that is a good show.
I've been watching Skubick for years, but Devin really does appear neutral. I think that makes him a Democrat though, because every single Republican that gets in front of a camera feels obligated to do Newt Gingrich's work.

6. Haha...
Yeah you have a point! If he's a republican and able to stay neutral on TELEVISION , it would make me look at that party with a whole new light.
Ok maybe not.
