Republicans block casino plans!
The Senate passed a resolution withdrawing support for a compact that would allow the Gun Lake Indian community to build a new casino south of Grand Rapids. That effectively ends state endorsement of the casino, which is adamantly opposed by Majority Leader Ken Sikkema, R-Wyoming. Ex-Gov. John Engler negotiated the charter and the House and Senate passed resolutions endorsing it. But Engler then decided not to sign the agreement when questions were raised about his personal ties to some of the investors. Gov. Jennifer Granholm, after two years in office, also had not signed the pact.

"Senate Majority Leader Ken Sikkema should have strong armed this resolution through the Senate on Dec. 7, which commemorates the greatest of all sneak attacks,".....

3. Granholm wants to help protect the horse racing industry too
which should help endear her to the rural farming crowd.

4. Seems I remember seeing
the Sag/Chips (Mt. Pleasant casino tribe) donated about 5 million to the GOP - and 0 to the Dems - during the last election cycle. The Engler failure to approve has some verrrrry strange circumstances surrounding it.

5. Engler is from Mount Pleasant!
That resort casino/hotel sure grew from a tiny shack of a small capacity to a "Taj Mahal"! Engler definitely supported that tribe.
