MI teachers - opinions on Michigan Merit Exam?
What's the scoop on the Michigan Merit Exam to replace the MEAP? It sounds like the test will basically be the ACT.

1. Why can't we just use the ACT?
I suspect it's cheaper to just pay the fee to use their test than to develop a separate one. If we used the existing ACT, kids could use that for their college entrance exam, instead of the state paying for one, and students paying for another. If the goal is to have more college educated people, covering the cost of the entrance exam would help towards that goal.

Maybe I'm missing something, but having a college-entrance style of test seems like a waste, if it isn't the real thing.
