Hey Twin Cities DUers!
Hook me up! I am looking to rent an apartment in uptown about 25th and Emerson. Is this a pretty good area?

spend so much on rent? Try Hopkins - you're 10 min from uptown and you'll spend 30% less on rent...

Edit: I just clicked on your profile and see you're in St. Louis Park! Howdy Neighbor! I'm half a mile down Blake from Knollwood mall! :)

2. In actuallity, the reason I am looking at this place is because
it is dirt cheap for a one bedroom apartment. I was willing to pay up to $700, but I can get this one for $495 plus electric.

I also like the uptown neighborhood. It's so close to everything, including both my jobs!

And I'm familiar with your area...I live right off Minnetonka on Xenwood and work at the PT on Louisiana!

3. Damn!
Jeezus - that's $40 less than I'm paying in Hopkins! I was thinking you'd hit 7 bills easy in Uptown.

I'm not familiar with 25th and Emerson. I just don't really go into town much. (Except for riding the bike trails down to Lake Calhoun)I do know this: In that general area it's real easy to be on a nice looking block on a nice looking street and have the gaping mouth of hell be right around the corner. Lock your car! Ok, I'm exaggerating a bit...

And ok...I'm feeling brain-dead. Fer chrissake, I used to LIVE on Louisiana (2700 block right next to the post office. I'm sitting here running my memory of everything on that street from the gun shop at 394 to Excelsior and I can't think of what PT stands for.

10. Oh!
Ok, I know where that is! There used to be a sign shop just a couple blocks away on Lake Street, across the street from the St. Louis Park High Football field. I was the signmaker!

7. Holy Guacamole!
Damn, I was paying $495 twelve years ago in that neighborhood! The price is definately good! Is it by that school on Hennepin? IIRC I almost lived in a building around there once, but ended up in the Belmont on Hennepin & Franklin instead (which was also a great building).

Have you ever lived in Uptown/The Wedge before? I lived there for six years during my 20s, before I got married. It's great because it's so close to everything, but it can also suck because, well, you're close to everything. Parking is a hassle (unless you've got offstreet), it can be noisy, there's property crime, etc. Just the typical urban living experience, I guess!

Best of luck with the appt and let us know what happens!

:hi:

12. That
was one of those one-liners that just fell flat on it's face...

Y'know, the old comic's line: "Thanks, I'll be here all week, and don't forget to tip the waitress."

:)

So, are you getting the apartment? I've got a truck if you want help moving. (No, I'm not an internet wierdo!) (just a guy with a truck who as it happens lives practically down the block). It still blows my mind to get on something as vast as the internet and wind up talking to someone who probably shops at the same Cub foods!

13. Haha...I bet we *DO* shop at the same Cub Foods!!!
It's ok...I couldn't figure out if it was a joke or you were being serious. It's hard to tell sometimes!

I'm not sure about the apartment yet. I am going to look at the one I was talking about in about a half hour and then maybe a few more tomorrow. I'v got a couple weeks to decide, but I'll be sure to let you know!

As for moving, most of my stuff is being stored up north right now so I am going to con my dad and brother into hauling it down here. Thank goodness!

Man how I hate moving!

So what brings you to DU, Something Blue?

14. Yeah, moving sucks..
The last time I moved I needed help with some furniture - it was the first time in my life I ever needed help moving my own possessions...made me feel VERY old...

I've been reading DU pretty much daily since shortly after the DNC in 2000. I only remember that because Gore's speech at the convention really got me excited (especially when he followed his speech with a song by The Call - my favorite band that nobody's heard of...) and I remember reading more about it here thereafter.

Then of course came the election...if you can call it that... :(

Then there's the other reason...

I'm one of those seemingly rare breeds of cat - a liberal who really likes firearms. I read DU for a year and a half before I ventured down to j/ps and started reading there. As you probably know, it's a pretty messy forum, to say the least. There are a couple of folks who just irritate the living chit out of me, and after four years of reading DU, my primary reason for actually registering was to be able to use the ignore feature! :)

It's funny, I never really intended to start posting at all, I just wanted to make my reading experience more pleasant...but since I'm here, why not?

Thanks for asking! Lemmee know how the apt thing goes. Good luck!

16. Ah...age is just a number...
Or something like that. I'm still young so it doesn't really matter. How old ARE you? 90? Just kidding!

I never really intended to post when I started coming on DU (99 or so) but after a few years of lurking I just couldn't resist.

It's so addicting!

BTW...the apartment I looked at today isn't what I think I'm looking for (not that I'm sure what I'm looking for). The bedroom was so so so small!!!!

Hopefully I'll have better luck next time!

4. It is a total renters market in Minneapolis.
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 09:29 AM by myrna minx
Property owners are desperate to rent their vacants. I have no doubt that you will find a great deal in Uptown. Beware Of UPI, though. The owner is a huge Colman supporter and a bit of a slumlord, IMHO.

25th and Emerson is a great area. It is within walking distance to the lake, the Uptown, and the Busline. :hi:

8. Wow, how times change in just a few years
I imagine lots of people bought with the low interest rates we've had, and moved on. At least it's better than it was in the mid-90s, when we had those <1% vacancy rates. My wife and I bought right when things started to get bad (Spring 1996) so thankfully we missed that. But I had many friends who were renting that were having a hell of a time finding anything decent for $600 back then.

17. don't know this firsthand, but...
All of my friends say they'd love to live in Uptown except for how hellish it is to drive there. It's especially bad if you drive a stick shift. I don't have a car, but whenever I'm in a friend's car, it _is_ really awful (unless it's pretty late at night).

Also, I don't know how many buses go by Emerson, but there are loads that operate in the general Uptown area, so that's something to consider if you're put off by bad traffic.

I'm at 26th and Fremont.

The neighborhood is great - you don't need to use a car to do anything.

20. I think I found one...
A friend and I went looking at two bedrooms in uptown today on the off chance that we might find something a bit cheaper that we liked. At first I wasn't sure about having a roommate, but now I think I'm ok.

We found the coolest apartment on Lagoon and Irving, I think. It's so cool. It is very loft like in it's layout, but only one floor. The bedrooms are large and the living room is kickass with huge windows and super funky cool track lighting. The topper is all brand new pergo (sp) floors.

I think we are going to go for it!!!
