Why?

Because EPHS has a gay-straight alliance, and they let the gay kids have a booth at their diversity fair.

His old website has a picture of Matthew Shepard with flames burning over him. He had some link you could click on to hear, Matthew "scream in hell". I clicked on it and yes, it was screaming all right. Probably Phelps getting it up the a** as someone here suggested.

6. There's only one way to combat them

Distract attention away from them - it drives them crazy.

They came to Tulsa once, and I got across from them with two signs - "God Is Love" and "Fred Phelps Is a Wanker."

After I put out the signs, a couple of the guys looked like they were going to cross the street to talk to me, but then I pulled out my torches, lit them, and started juggling. Mess with the big guy playing with fire? Maybe we'll just stay on our side of the street.

A college kid went over to talk to them then came over to me to get "the other side." I educated him on why the "King James" version of the Bible is called, "The King James" version, which got a local toothless evangelist who drives around in a Jesus bus upset (he had stopped and gotten out and was listening to me talk to this kid).

Kid walked away a little confused but said he was going to do some research on his own.

One of the ones I pointed out was that according to the the FIRST version of the KJV Bible (there have been several others since then), there was a belief in purgatory, which protestants don't believe in.

Anyway, my main point with him was that humans translate the Bible from language to language, and that is going to muddy the waters. A prime example is the whole thing with the citizens of Canaan wanting to have sex with the angels that visit Lot. They knock on his door and demand to see the men so they can "have relations with them." Well, the Greek that "have relations with them" comes from can also be translated as talk or have a conversation with. To me, that's like there's a group of men outside your door asking to speak to your brother, who's pissed them off, and they're wanting to "talk" with him, and while telling you this, they're punching their fist into their open hands and snickering.

Later on in the Bible, whenever Sodom and Gammorah is mentioned (including by Jesus, I believe) never is homosexuality listed as a reason for its destruction, but mainly selfishness. The Canaanites didn't like Lot giving strangers shelter, but to do so in Canaan (a desert) would be akin to a death sentence (if they weren't angels).
