Sunday June 5th, Rally for EDUCATIONAL ACCESS at the Capitol
One of the groups putting this on is General College Truth Movement, the group staged the sit-in to protest the proposed closing of the General College at the University of Minnesota

http://webegc.org/

WHAT: Minnesota's Voice: Minnesota Rallies for Educational Access, Equal Opportunity, & Justice!
WHEN: Sunday, June 5, 2005 beginning at 1:30pm
WHERE: The Minnesota State Capitol Building, St. Paul, Minnesota
THE OBJECTIVE: Thousands of Minnesotans unite in ONE VOICE!

I'm not able to go to this, because I'm in PA over the summer. My brothers and sisters in GCTM have been working very hard in making this movement as huge as it is today. I remember sitting in a room in secret, with the doors closed, talking about the sit-in we were going to put on, and even then I knew what I was involved in was big. But this is a group that truly is as big as the movement.

Since I can't get to go to this, I would really like for at least one DUer to go there to take my place. I'm not sure I got any to go to the other rallies that GCTM helped put on. It may make people more comfortable that this isn't just a campus rally, but at the capitol building, and geared towards the general population rather than just students.

It's a great cause, too. I'm sure everybody in Minnesota is aware of what's happening to education in the state, and this is something that affects us all.

3. i'm in PA, can't be there. which is why i'm trying extra hard...
to recruit others. :-(

i hate having to save up money for college, especially since it keeps me away from the great city of minneapolis!

i don't think i have any takers on the rally yet. but hopefully some people on DU have seen it. education is one of the things that does affect all of us. and i know personally how much work these guys have put in to this stuff.

4. The word has certainly been getting out
I saw it on a forum for MN progressives and received three e-mail alerts. Attendance should be respectable if not great.

I didn't realize you'd gone back to PA already. Did you find a good job for the summer?

When I was on summer breaks from college I worked as a grunt for the US Forest Service.

5. well, if by good job, you mean a job that i like
i work at wendy's. not only wendy's, but one of the busiest wendy's in Pennsylvania. It's right by a Cabelas, which is a huge sporting goods store. We get lots of the redneck type bush people.

but i work nigh shift, I usually start at 5, and work till 1.30on weekdays and 2.30 and weekends.

but i love the people i work with, and it was one of the things i missed the most about pennsylvania. so i am glad to be back there.

6. Having a good work environment is number one.
It's easy to go to work if you like your colleagues.

I hope we can have a DU meet up right after you come back in the fall. I've only seen multiple pictures of your back side. :)

i have a bunch of stories that could scare people away from eating fast food forever.

on the rally, they got abou 300. they were shooting for a thousand, which is personally didn't think they could get. still a good outing, they had some really good speakers there.

8. 300 is good considering it was Grand Old Days in St. Paul
which draws 200,000 people during its one day run.

I saw the parade and had my hand shook by Chris Coleman, candidate for mayor and current mayor Randy Kelly. He came up before I could run away. People were booing him and a guy next to me yelled "You endorsed Bush!" Man, their hands were hot and sweaty.:eyes:

I also saw Norm Coleman and his lovely wife hiding in the bushes. Seriously, Norm was staying in the shadows. He knows a lot of people are angry with him.:grr:

The highlight of my day was going to a local vineyard for a wine tasting. Fun date. :P
