Mike Hatch's daughters are HOT
sorry to be superficial but that's all I could think when I saw the pic of them on front of the Star Trib this morning. Too bad the reason they're in the news is for being arrested for that scuffle outside the Chicago nightclub, but I doubt that'll make much of an issue in the campaign. They blow the Bush twins out of the water for sure. More reason I want him to be our next governor!

3. nah, I'd safely assume they are smarter after that convention speech
Anyone who isn't a sack of rocks is smarter than the Bush twins judging by that. More evidence that Democratic women are better looking and more intelligent.

4. Actually, this pic is better

I can see this as GOP mudslinging material for a Hatch run for governor. Drunken/wild daughters is a strong attack point for the "morality" party (as they will spin it). The attack will be along the line of since Hatch is not raising "moral" daughters, how can a "unmoral" man be governor.

I agree his daughters are very, very hot. Outside of a night out to celebrate one of them turning 21, you do not hear anything else about them. So it sounds just like average young women in their early 20's.

5. That mudslinging campaign is well underway.
Check out today's LTTE in the Strib. One makes sure to mention that unless some "liberal judge" lets them off, hopefully they'll learn their lesson and straighten up.

Hmm, kind of how the Bush twins got a wrist-slap for UNDERAGE drinking? At least the Hatch sisters were legal!

8. Must agree!!
They are way hot!

I have heard of way worse stoyies on peoples 21st birthday. Not that they should be let off the hook, but come. They did not kill anybody.

6. Rod Grams, 'zipper problem' Norm, John Grunwaldmanjenson
or whatever his name was that ran for governor. Hatch need not worry. If that ever came up he should just counter attack by talking about the issues. After all, who has never done something stupid while being 21? Its moot.

7. Hell, the RWers hero pretzeldent was a lush until 40
and had multiple DUIs. That to me is a little more scandalous than getting rowdy after too much to drink. * could have killed someone.

9. Why is this on the Strib's front page? And does Mike Hatch have ANY
negatives the right wing can attack or are they having to go after the Hatch kids for dirt?

By the way, the Dems can use this right wing press coverage from the Strib to point out what a strong Dad Hatch is - not shying away from publicity, even though he may run for governor - Hatch is standing by his kids through thick and thin. That's Dem Family Values.

And I don't care how the daughters look - this story was covered more than adequately when it broke and I say the Strib is way overdoing it - front page??? Huge picture??

How did the Pioneer Press cover this story today?

12. Ha, Anne is one hell of a smart cookie:
Asked about the attention drawn because of their father, Anne Hatch said: "It happens with other political daughters, families. We knew growing up that something like this could happen."

Gee, who could she possibly be referring to?

13. Another pic

I am glad it is over for them. This still could easily be campaign fodder for fall 2006.

14. Dayum!
I envy Minnesotans. On a more serious not, do you think Hatch will run for Governor and that he can win if he does? I know Pawlenty's a jerk but I hear that he is somewhat popular.

15. Pawlenty's on shaky ground these days
he's about ready to shut down the state gov't if he doesn't get his way by June 30. He won election with < 50% last time, and the Repubs almost lost control of the state house in 2004. Even though the state is facing HUGE deficits, Timmy refuses to budge on raising taxes on the richest citizens, instead preferring "user fees" to fair, progressive taxation.

The DFL has the GOP on the run in MN, and the momentum is on our side. The current crop of MN Repubs is proving P.J. O'Rourke's addage that "Republicans say government doesn't work, and get elected to prove it".

Hatch is a good candidate, but has a lot of baggage. He's made a lot of enemies in the state and party over the years, and he'll face an uphill battle. He's not my first choice, but he'd be a damn sight better than any of the reactionaries coming out of the Repub camp today.

Heck, even former Repub Gov. Arne Carlson is better than the current crop of GOP ideologues.

18. Coming shutdown
We all know it is (mostly) the out of state funding intrests (mostly via the Taxpayer's League) who are pushing Pawlenty's no-new tax pledge. He must REALLY be indebted to them if he is taking this game of political chicken as far as a shutdown.

The DFL is offering compromises as a place to start. This has a good chance to blow-back into the GOP's face. Most people in this state would not mind a compromise. The DFL's latest one could have been worked with, but to reject it is beyond foolish.

Since other articles have mentioned that this no-new taxes pledge is Tim's ONLY realy jump to major national office, he is holding onto it as much as possible. To give in would at most mean a future cabinet position in DC or a choice lobbying position.

Of course it is the little people in the middle of this high states political poker/chicken.
