Poll question: What should I do during the probable government shut-down?
As a state employee, I'm betting that the state government will shut down for at least a week after June 30-- especially given the current circumstances.

Even though I'm supposedly on the "essential" list and may not get furloughed, I could also end up getting an unexpected, unpaid week off from work. What should I do during the furlough?

15. I would, but I'm kind of "between homes" right now
All the folk in my mom's 'hood all hire somebody to mow, and I'm not living at my legal residence. However the thought is a good one! :)

6. Apply for a job as legislative or governor's staff
Because they're considered "essential state employees" and won't be laid off.

13. Don't think I'm allowed to -- union contract
I'm in the union and I don't think we're allowed to take jobs in the leg branch while employed by the executive branch. Leg branch jobs are non-union, unlike every job in the exec branch (even management has a union).

7. Begin cleaning up the house,
and try finding a new place.

The sooner you're away from the poisonous ex, the better, and the quicker you can begin getting on with your life.

14. Hey FSC!
I'm going to have my first "civil" house-related conversation with my soon-to-be ex- in a couple hours. Looks like I'll be spending a couple of days cleaning/packing up my stuff, and looking for a condo to buy in St. Paul.

I'm probably just going to buy straight away, instead of selling-renting-buying to cut down on my moves. I've got access to enough $$ for a decent down payment (thank Allah for retirement funds!) so I can afford to get something before we close on the old house.

Right now I'm just looking forward to having my own place. :D

Hope your trip back was good! :hi:

8. I voted "other."
I think you should get outside and enjoy the nice weather and get some exercise at the same time. In other words, bike nekkid. To a nudist beach. With your tape measure. ;)

The issue isn't really what WE think you should do. What do YOU want to do? Think of something you really want to do and just do it. Uh, as long as it's legal of course. ;)

10. I, too, like the busking idea
or maybe you could pick up a little moola doing "research".

<snip> Kenneth Y. Tomlinson, the new chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, hired a researcher in Indiana to document the liberal leanings of the television program "Now" with Bill Moyers. Tomlinson, it may be remembered, is currently trying to make public television "fair and balanced" by hiring Republican hacks to fill every position he controls.
This guy in Indiana cleared about 15K for sitting on his couch making little checkmarks next to the word "liberal" on a piece of paper while watching Bill Moyers on PBS. Great gig. Our administration is often in need of people to arrange data to fit its needs. This is the land of opportunity. You too can hustle a "grant" to conduct "research."

11. Okay, here's my plan:
1) Take the 4th of July weekend and clean up my old house. I'm talking to the ex- on saturday to make arrangements.

2) Before next weekend, write a song about how us state gummint workers want to do our jobs, but don't appreciate non-compromising, pig-headed politicians who think keeping an idiotic campaign pledge is more important than taking care of the basic needs of the most vulnerable of our population.

3) Hit the Capitol EVERY DAY and play said song (created in #2, above) until my voice gives out, or my fingers bleed, or both.

4) Repeat step #3 as needed

5) Call Supormom and volunteer to hang out with her kids (and her, if she wants) -- because children ARE our future :)

5) Buy a new tape measure, and bike to nudist beach. Hope for sunny weather, too.

6) Hope shutdown doesn't last more than a week, because I'll run out of stuff to do (and money, too) :(

Make a BIG sign with some witty remark that ties Feelenty to the Bush regime (sorry... too tired to think of one!)

18. Hope Timmy's "Feelenty-ing" lucky...
because his new "racino" proposal is DOA.

Well maybe an unpaid and unplanned vacation in July is just what I need... :D
