Anybody going to see "The Corporation" ?
JULY 15, 2005 6:30 p.m.

At the AIR CONDITIONED . . .

Minneapolis Urban League
2100 Plymouth Avenue
Minneapolis, MN 55411
Questions: Call Keiith at 612-588-9122

If you liked Bowling for Columbine or Farenheit 911, you'll love this. The
Corporation explores the rise of the Corporation as the dominant institution
in America and the world today. It explores how the insatiable search for
immediate profits has degraded the environment, trampled human rights, and
undermined democracy. Yet, the Corpation is not necessarily an
anti-coporate film
because it provides a sane and humane vision for a sustainable future.

Come hang out with friends in the cool environs of the Minneapolis Urban
League,
and stay for the great conversation afterwards. Sponsored by the Black
Democrats
of Minnesota.

Keith Ellison

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor
freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up
the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the
ocean without the
awful roar of its many waters." -- Frederick Douglass

5. The book is highly recommended, too
Same title, same author (Joel Bakan). Concise and to the point, it fleshes out a lot of details. Particularly worthwhile, the first chapter outlines the history of corporations as legal entities (in Britain). For those like me who had no idea how corporations came about, it was very instructive - especially to learn how restricted corporations initially were in what they were allowed to do.

7. I'm really tempted, but
I spent today working on a Habitat for Humanity house, and I think my brain melted. All I want to do is stare into space, and the thought of getting into the car again makes me scream inwardly, "NOOOOO!"

8. Lovely thing for you to do, Lydia. (Habitat house)
It's about 95 degrees today. It must have been awful working outside.

9. Well, we were actually working inside, painting rooms in
the four townhouse units, but since the windows were wide open, we were actually sort of outside.

The twenty people from three churches who were on today's team went through seventy-two bottles of water and an unknown amount of juice, pop, and watermelon, not to mention taking every opportunity to "rinse paint brushes" under the garden hose outside.

11. What a great site!
There are so many terrific-looking documentaries there that if I downloaded all the ones that I'm interested in, I'd have to buy a couple of external hard disks to store them all. :-)
