Photos from the Lake Street Peace Vigil today
Scott Mortenson and I went. Scott speaks openly in his candidacy for Congress about wanting an immediate pull-out from Iraq. That was a welcome surprise to the WAMM and Veterans for Peace members who are out there on the bridge every Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., rain or shine.

Come on down next week. I'll see you there!

Isn't this a great sign? The design on the reverse was equally vibrant. The artist who made it said he has been out of work 11 months.

A brief rally after the march up and down the bridge:

2. Thanks, Bill!
:hi:
It was hard werk, too. 90 degrees in the shade, sweat running down our backs....:) Fun hearing all the honks and seeing all the drivers flashing peace signs.

3. Thank You Kat!
I love Du'ers.

Do you know what the material was on the sign
The world still says no to war? It looks
very light, she's barely holding it between
her pinchers.

Time to start thinking about our
signs for Washington- Light, durable,
foldable.:hi:

I'm glad Scott Mortenson is out interacting with the peace community, as these folks could be very helpful to his campaign.

8. Stop "Ken and Barbie" Politics in Minnesota and America Now!
The Days of "Ken and Barbie" Politics are Over.

Today with 880 million dollars of total contributions in the last
Presidential election, and when I supposedly have to raise 2 to 4
million dollars to win this House seat in the 6th, most campaigns
are trotting out the usual happy faces, with the usual votes of
confidence in thousands of dollars to popularity contests that will
do little to change anything. Will we elect another candidate, who
will be a defector on bankruptcy, or CAFTA, or the war, or defending
Social Security, or defending Human and Civil Rights? Today
President Bush, bypassed the Senate, with the recess appointment of
Bolton, and the rhetoric on privatization of Social Security is
heating up again. President Bush and the Republicans are bent on
violating the Constitution, merging church and state (opening up the
pandoras box of state religion, and ultimately opening the door for
religious persecution), continuing their nation building quest based
on lies, greed, and fear, squelching free speech, continuing
policies to fill the pockets of the super rich even further, at the
expense of average, everyday people. Where will it ever end? We
all know these mid term elections are vitally important.
Will "Barbie and Ken" waving happily, touting their grand
achievements and happy faces, once again lull Americans back to
sleep, when we startle a bit here and there. Maybe, I should have
my photo taken in a serious pose of days gone by? Will Americans
continue to sleepwalk until all of our rights, all of our freedoms
are gone forever? The economy's healthy, they lie to themselves and
us. We're winning the war on terror, they wink and giggle and wrap
themselves in ignorance and the flag. I challenge Minnesotans and
Americans to reject these doublespeaking weaklings, that would
bargain away the rest of your rights and freedoms, and plunge us
into massive debt and financial insanity. If China can buy our oil
companies, why can't we buy theirs? If we have low inflation, then
why will it cost millions and millions more if we don't build the
billionaires their stadiums now? "Barbie and Ken" must be
rejected to go back home and live in the dreamworld they have
fabricated, while their children play "blackhawk down" on the game
counsel and blow away some more enemies, while we hear reports of
soldiers being ordered to shoot children, adding to the mountain of
bodies of innocent civilians 100,000 bodies deep, capped with 1800+
American soldiers.. Will "Barbie and Ken" continue to send your
sons and daughters to die in a war fabricated by spin doctors and
maniacs? Continue to erode your civil rights? Continue to send your
jobs overseas? Continue to pollute our environment? Continue to
favor the wealthiest of us over the rest of us, in every issue,
every area? Continue to "play the game" like peoples lives are
merely pawns in their "football game", while they mow everyday
people over to implement their insidious plots. Some of us think we
can sit on our hands and play politics with peoples lives to win.
Win What? Years of watching "Barbie and Ken" sit at the table?
and "compromise?" "capitulate?" and "sell you out?" Continue to
cheer them on. Rah! Rah! Barbie can save us... Ken Cares.... Go
ahead! Support their popularity contests and mealy mouth pandering
and doublespeak and continue to solve nothing. Most of the
solutions to the myriad problems are not earth shattering
revelations, but we do not have the votes right now in Congress to
pass them. Support a candidate who will speak up, and work toward
real solutions.
