Poll: 3rd district (Ramstad's) voters oppose privatization by wide margin

ST. PAUL, Minn., Aug. 4 /U.S. Newswire/ -- An overwhelming majority of registered voters in Minnesota's Third Congressional District oppose President Bush's plan to privatize Social Security. Minnesota's 3rd CD, which includes the west metro area of the Twin Cities, is represented by Republican Jim Ramstad. Rep. Ramstad is a member of the US House Ways & Means Committee which will be first to consider Social Security privatization legislation.

"These polling results demonstrate the wide and deep opposition to Social Security Privatization plans in Washington, D.C that we have seen across Minnesota," said Zach Rodvold, State Director, Minnesota United to Protect Social Security (MUPSS).

The Strategic Consulting Group (SCG) poll found that sixty-six percent of registered said they "disapproved" of the President's handling of Social Security and that the Bush plan will weaken Social Security. Similarly, two-thirds of poll respondents oppose privatization.
