Idiot Freeps on the Bridge last night (all 2 of 'em)
One held a sign that said "Liberate Iraq", the other had a sign that said "Destroy Iraq - U.S.M.C."

Okay Freeps, I'm officially confused, what's the agenda today - are we "liberating" Iraq or destroying it?

1. Ahhhhhh, I understand
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 09:30 AM by ewagner
like the old Viet Nam bromide: "We need to destroy this village to save it".

on edit: We had ONE freeper last night. His sign said "Support the Mission". When our hostess tried to befriend him and shake his hand he refused and said that we "hated America" and we "desecrated our country" by protesting. Seems to me I've heard that crap before....Limbaugh, O'Lielly, (Insan)Hannity...no thinking for themselves and no logic behind the statements, just blind jingoism.

7. That's exactly what I told the person next to me last night.
There was a group of about 5 or so pro-war people across from me on the bridge. One had a sign that said "Kill All Terrorists USMC" and the others had signs that weren't very obvious. In fact, if the person next to me hadn't pointed them out, I wouldn't have noticed.
Bvar22 captured them in his pics though I'm not sure that he even realizes they're not actually anti-war protesters.

Take a close look at the top pic on the right. That's them. The signs say "Say No To War" etc. in big print but if you could read the smaller print, they're actually pro-war, anti-leftist, or whatever. Actually, the print on some was so small that I couldn't read them all that well last night so I'm not entirely sure what excatly these guys are for or against. Bvar22, any chance you can blow that pic up to show the small print a little better? At any rate, since you can't really read the small print and since the "Say No To War" is what really stands out, I thought it was a pretty idiotic way to get their point across. Like I said, I wouldn't have even noticed it if the person next to me hadn't brought it up.

8. I noticed them, too. One said: "Lefties, get gainfiul employment"
or something like that. haha

They sure were QUIET!

I bet their hearts sank when they saw the crowds and the joy.

I took pics of the freeper protest signs but with someone else's camera. I or bvar can zoom in so you can read them. Their signs blend in -- not very effective counter-protesting,IMO

10. LOL!
:)

The extreme neocons I know are all kiss-ass bushite wannabees.

They suck up to power. In rare cases does that ever pay off for them. They just lose their co-workers respect and they get used by their superiors.

11. Yeah, I think that was it.
And you're definitely right about them being quiet. The guy with the "Kill All Terrorists" sign only held it up for a short while that I saw. Most of the time he had it tucked behind the little cement wall so no one would see it. I did see a girl go up to one of the others and have some words with him. From where I stood it looked like she was really laying into him. Other than that, I didn't see them saying or doing anything. They were probably paralyzed with fear when they say how many people showed up. ;)

It was definitely not very effective counter-protesting. The small print was so hard to read that for the most part I didn't even bother. It was about the equivalent of having a sign that said "Bring The Troops Home Now!" in huge letters and tiny print at the bottom that said "Just Kidding." If you're going to counter-protest, you should at least have the 'nads to do it right. At least the guy with the "Support The Troops Liberate Iraq" sign had the guts to stand up for what he believed in and didn't try to hide in the crowd. I don't agree with him but I can at least give him credit for that much.

12. I didn't even notice!
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 03:15 PM by bvar22
I'm going to see if I have a pic that I can enlarge.
I didn't notice ANY pro-war assholes.

There IS a giveaway.
These signs are professionally printed.
That is unusual for Liberals who delight in Creativity and Independent thinking. Someone has to direct those on the Right, and provide them with signs telling them what to think and say.

13. LOL! I didn't think you had noticed it!
Yeah, it wasn't very obvious at all so it's really not your fault. I don't think many people noticed so apparently their "counter-protest" wasn't all that effective. "Hey, I've got an idea! Let's make signs and blend in with the others at the vigil but we'll be secretly protesting FOR the war." Looks like it was a pretty well-kept secret. ;)

14. Here they are:

OMG! I'm embarrassed!
In my defense, this was a part of a much larger landscape that I cropped for the collage I posted.

This is as good as I can do for enlarging the signs.

I DID notice that these signs WERE unusual. I believe that they were the ONLY large, professionally printed signs at the whole rally. I couldn't read the fine print from across the bridge.
It looks like there is a website or something written across the bottom. Do you know what it says?

15. I couldn't STAND it!
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 04:25 PM by bvar22
I went back and fixed the pic. I had over 200 shots from last night.

I am glad you pointed this out because I can put the fixed one in the DU Album that benburch is compiling tonight!

That really wasn't an effective protest. In fact, their protest was counter productive. I'm sure the majority of people were in the dark like me, and EVERYONE driving across the bridge thought they were just more people supporting Cindy!

If you were right across from them, I walked right behind you when I snapped that picture!
:hi:

Have a safe trip katinmn! I'll be watching for you on the TV!

20. Hah! Gee, I didn't mean to make all that extra work for you.
I was going to point them out when you first posted the pictures but DU was really dogging that night so I didn't get around to posting. I was also kind of curious to see whether or not anyone else that had been at the vigil had noticed them. Looks like katinmn and I were the only ones but neither of us noticed them until someone else pointed them out. Hah! Great job counter-protesting guys! Thanks for adding to our numbers on the bridge. ;) As ISUGRADIA said, the Protest Warriors are a bunch of idiots.

Yeah, I was across from the morons and slightly to the west -- a few people down from the person with the "Bush is the lying king" sign (or something like that). So yeah, we were within a few feet of each other and didn't know it! :hi:

And yes katinmn, have a safe trip! We'll be eagerly awaiting your reports!

at Snelling and B in Roseville. They had American flags, Israeli flags, and UN flags with the UN logo crossed out.

I was so overcome with patriotism that I could barely see the road through my tears.

22. But they got press coverage...
I have to say I'm disappointed with the 'Strib. The article that appeared in the paper:

http://www.startribune.com/stories/1762/5566189.html

had the sub-headline "A few supporters were sprinkled in the crowd". Right, all two of them. And featured a cell-phone conversation (!) with someone opposed to the demonstration.

The two associated pieces ("Rowley draws fire from GOP over trip" and "Lourey's neighbors are divided") didn't help either.

I suspect the 'Strib is running scared from accusations of liberal bias, but they seem to be hugely over-reacting (from hiring Katherine Kersten as a regular commentator right down to changes on the comics pages).
