Alright, MN!
Let's hear it... What are you going to eat at the Fair?!!! I can't WAIT for Sweet Martha's cookies, and a Corn Dog. I NEVER eat hot dogs unless it's at the fair. I should start fasting now! So, what are you going to eat?

1. Best memory
I have of the Minnesota State Fair was eating at one of the Lutheran Church Food Halls....had what they called a "beef commercial" ..at
least that's what my Minnesota friends called it...

It was:

a piece of bread
topped with thinly sliced beef
a scoop of mashed potatos
and SMOTHERED with gravy

okay, okay, okay ...it's a hot roast beef sandwich but it was heavenly.......

2. Just crappy over priced food..... and love it!!!
Deep fry it, put it on a stick and I am ready to go!! Wash it down with a $6 glass of 3.2% beer and it is heaven! :-)

3. My wicked traditions:
cheese curds (instant heart attack, but what a way to go!)
honey lemonade
malts at the dairy building

4. pronto pups FOREVER!
Don't get the other ones. Pronto Pups are it. Smothered in mustard.

And malts at the milk barn. That huuuuuuge bag of fries. Mini-donuts (I toss the second half of the bag before sugar shock sets in.)

I wear my most outrageous t-shirt. Visit every building, every booth.

I hate that they did away with Machinery Hill.

Dawdle in the art building, look at every piece of art, every photo, every sculpture.

If it's an all-day trip, lunch at the Lutheran dining hall.

Fill out every prize offer. Walk through all the animal barns.

Make faces at the "AM1280ThePatriot" broadcasters in their booth.

Sweat copiously while covering every booth in the grandstand.

Don't go to the shows, though.

8. They did away with Machinery Hill???!!!
That's almost as much of a loss as the Peter's Wieners booth.

Anyway, I LIKE your approach. It reminds me of the way my grandparents used to tour the Fair.

Maybe we should have a DU expedition to the event of the summer.

5. Fasting won't work - you have to go into training
For me it's Pronto Pup, cheese curds, Sweet Martha's, and roasted corn and anything else that might suddenly look good. I always imagine myself as Ms Pacman eating my way up and down the fair grounds.

I had to make an appointment for a routine check with my doctor and the first appointment they offered me was on Friday, the 26. I almost took that one until I remembered he'll want to do a cholestoral check and I'm going to the fair on the 25th. I explained my dilema to the receptionist so she scheduled the appointment for early on the 25th so I'll have the test before I do my annual fat binge.

Several years ago I had a terrible experience. My friend, my niece, her niece and I went to the fair on a day when it was in the 90's and humid...It was too hot to eat! We finally wound up in one of the church dining halls for both the air conditioning and eating real food to revive ourselves. I really felt cheated that year.

6. Fried
Just take any bread product and put in the deep fryer and serve it up, in fact anything that is deep fried is good for me, I am looking to get my cholesterol count to have a comma in it when I am done.

7. Funnel cake, of course
but I was sorry to hear they canceled the free shuttle. When we took it it was pretty crowded and I thought others were, too. We parked in Roseville (or was it Shoreview?) by the parking lot of DeLuxe Check and the shuttle was very very convenient.

9. I think they're still running the free shuttle from the U
by the stadium, since there's a dedicated bus road between the Mpls and St. Paul campuses.

If nothing else, I can take the #6 bus from my home to the U and hop aboard the shuttle. :-)

12. Thank you. Seems that many are still there
and even if I pay $5.00 it is still worth it. Our first year we tried to park - I don't know, off Snelling someplace there and had to walk miles.
