Well, Norm's done his part (So he thinks) |
|
I blasted him yesterday saying he better start working for the people instead of the party and that he had to face the fact that HIS leader was clearly incompetent and that he should join in impeachment proceedings. The lapdog's response, as expected:
Dear katinmn:
Thank you for taking the time to contact me with your concerns about Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.
It is crucial we move swiftly in getting the appropriate funds to the region. The areas affected are in desperate need of aid and resources. In its wake, Hurricane Katrina left entire cites in ruin and families displaced from their homes.
In order to provide immediate relief, my Senate colleagues and I convened a special session of Congress to grant $10.5 billion in disaster assistance funds to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This funding is the first step in a long rebuilding process on the Gulf Coast and it will supply the affected areas with much-needed resources in the coming days and weeks.
Thank you once again for contacting me. I will keep your concerns in mind as we work together to address this urgent situation.
Sincerely, Norm Coleman United States Senate

1. Dear Rep McCollum- wait until you see what I am writing to NORM |
|
Representative Betty McCollum United States House of Representatives 1029 Longworth House Office Building Washington, DC 20515-0001
Dear Representative McCollum,
You are my representative. I'm writing you to make a very strong request in view of the massive negligence and consequent suffering in New Orleans.
I request that you immediately file or join with others to file a bill of impeachment for President Bush and Vice President Cheney.
The storm was anticipated one week in advance. Nothing was done. The storm hit. Nothing was done. It's five days later. Oh the help is starting to arrive.
I could drive to New Orleans in 24 hours GIVE ME A BREAK
The lack of response and the suffering and death are directly traced to nothing being done.
This is a crime against the people of New Orleans and surrounding areas. It is also a crime against all Americans.
Please move to impeach Bush/Cheney now.
Thank you.

Be serious. Senators and Congresspersons get hundreds, if not thousands, of emails every day. The response you got from Coleman was, with 99.999% certainty, not written by him. Congressional staffers have form letters they're instructed to use when replying to certain types of messages; in fact there's a decent chance that it was an auto-reply based on the content of your original message. They read messages, they take notes on messages, but if you want to get the attention of folks in Congress, especially for something as serious as asking for impeachment proceedings, you should 1. Read up on the grounds for impeachment. Not sure "mis-handled response to natural disaster" qualifies. 2. Start a grassroots petition, which is really easy to do. If it picks up enough support, Congress will take notice and subsequent action.

5. There are 20+ impeach * petitions out there and 1000s of |
|
web sites. Just google the phrase. Many of us are well-versed in the articles of impeachment and we are ready to roll.
P.S. I worked for the government for 12 years - I know senators don't write teir own letters.

6. I don't think there's anyone on this board who |
|
thinks Senators and Representatives read all their emails and that we get personal responses.
Nonetheless I did email Dayton, Coleman and Ramstad telling them it was time for impeachment (though the tone of my email to Dayton was very different from the other two.)

7. I wrote Coleman again yesterday |
|
using a really well thought out letter another DUer crafted.
On the bottom of his letter I added:
P.S. Please don't respond with another bullshit form letter praising everything Bush does. Stand up and be a MAN and do what is right for your country for once. Now.
If I get another form letter I'm going to be pretty upset. I might even make a personal visit to the University office. Let them answer to a really angry citizen.
Hell, we should all stop in sometime this week and register a complaint personally.
