Rep. Kline urges GOP to permanently replace DeLay
WASHINGTON — Rep. John Kline said Friday that Republicans should permanently replace Tom DeLay as majority leader, saying the party needed a more stable leadership.
"The situation is that Tom's legal situation doesn't seem to be reaching clarity," Kline, R-Minn., told The Associated Press. "There are stories of more indictments or questions associated with Jack Abramoff. And I think that Tom DeLay is going to have to concentrate on that."
DeLay, R-Texas, is awaiting trial in Texas on charges of laundering campaign money used in races for the state legislature. On Thursday, a Texas prosecutor issued subpoenas for records of a contribution to a nonprofit organization linked to DeLay and lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who pleaded guilty to federal charges in a congressional corruption investigation.
DeLay has stepped down pending his trial, but plans to seek his old post back. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., has served as acting majority leader.
Kline said he'd like to see Rep. John Boehner, chairman of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, become new majority leader.
"He's had experience in leadership when he was the conference chairman," Kline said. "I just think that he brings experience and proven ability to address problems."
One of the other emails I had referenced this article and compared DeLay to the weakest chicken in the flock and Kline and the other Repukes who are deserting to the other chickens who gang up on the weak one and peck it to death.
