Kennedy has raised $1 million more than Klobuchar
According to the latest numbers. The article does not say how much of Kennedy's money is from out of of state. Expect this gap to grow with the latest Bush visit. I wish politics was not just how much money you can raise as it is now. :(

http://www.startribune.com/587/story/217237.html

"WASHINGTON - Democratic front-runner Amy Klobuchar raised about $701,000 for her U.S. Senate campaign in the last quarter of 2005 and ended the year with $1.74 million in cash, but she fell nearly $1 million behind Republican Rep. Mark Kennedy in the early money chase, it was disclosed Tuesday.

However, the Senate fundraising race could turn topsy-turvy within days. Wealthy Minneapolis trial lawyer Mike Ciresi, a Democrat who invested $4.7 million of his personal fortune in an unsuccessful Senate campaign in 2000, is expected to announce by week's end whether he will try again.

In the Sixth District jockeying to succeed Kennedy, former state transportation commissioner Elwyn Tinklenberg raised $127,475 in the fourth quarter and more than $300,000 for the year, closing with nearly $185,000 in the bank. But Wetterling ended the year with more than $217,000 in cash and, if she decides to shift to the House race, she could use the cash from her Senate campaign.

In the four-way Republican race, state Sen. Michele Bachmann, R-Stillwater, raised $105,807 in the quarter, boosting her 2005 total to more than $313,000, with $210,000 in cash on Dec. 31. State Rep. Phil Krinkie, R-Shoreview, raised more than $337,000 for the year, closing with $266,000 in cash, followed by Rep. Jim Knoblach, R-St. Cloud, with nearly $272,000 for the year, and more than $236,000 in cash (including $100,000 that he lent his campaign) and then by Cold Springs Granite executive Jay Esmay with $42,000 raised and $32,000 in cash."

1. Maybe Klobuchar is not the right Dem to run for this seat.

I do not think that her rather unusual name helps her either.

4. Wetterling had even less when she filed
Most DFL money comes from many small sources, not a few large ones like the Republicans.

5. DEMs don't have to raise as much money...
WE aren't bought and paid for like the repukes and AMY will get out there and show her face. She impressed my hubby years ago in a 3-5 minute conversation even before we both got political.

10. It's actually a very well-known last name
Her dad, Jim Klobuchar, was a well-known Minneapolis Strib sports columnist. It's a Slovenian surname that will serve her well on the Iron Range.

If you base your assertion that Amy Klobuchar is not the right Dem to run for this seat based the fact that she has not out-raised Screech Kennedy, can you tell us which Dem has raised more than him?

3. Kennedy is a piece of crap, but he is problematic piece of crap
This race is targeted hard by the right and the reason Kennedy is running is because he is named Kennedy - even if it's a name honored by the Left and despised by the Right. It's the name you know.

Amy is a decent candidate but she has some serious obstacles to overcome. What is missing from the equation is that Amy's fundraising will be ratcheted up now that the race has narrowed - and, of course, the race is entering it's critical point and the Minnesota Dems will start digging deeper.

6. Hopefully he'll go down with the Abramhoff sinking ship..
He took a chunk of change and that can be used against him.

Still, how do the DEMS stack up on the issues?

HealthCare
Living Wage
Ending Racial Profiling
Honest Elections - keep our paper trail
Ethanol and Wind Farm markets for MN
IMPEACH the pRes and co-monkeys
Equip our troops or pull them out
Get to the truth about torture and scandals - prosecute liberally!

I want someone who will get up in a govenator's face like Barbara Boxer does in CA. I want someone who definately won't pander to big business and yet isn't about beating it into the ground either. I like prosperity.

I liked Betsy McCollum because she stands up to Bush now as a House Rep. What district is she in? Wasn't she going to try for Dayton's seat at one point?

Who was that FBI whistle blower? Colleen Rawley? She was tentatively running for a spot too. Haven't heard much about that lately.

from out of state. of course we can't have that because we'd really know who was financing kennedy then.

12. Look it up for yourself at the FEC website
The Federal Elections Commission website is pretty easy to search and navigate through. The addresses and occupations of major contributors and all PACs are itemized.

But since political reporters seem incapable of getting past the first page of total amounts raised and do any real analysis of these reports, go here and do it yourself:

http://www.fec.gov/
