KSTP refuses to air pro-war agitprop
http://www.startribune.com/587/story/252903.html

<snip>
KSTP General Manager Rob Hubbard said the station refused to run the ad, which began running last week, because of the claim that the media are intentionally misleading citizens.

He said the station often airs so-called third-party issue ads whether the station agrees with them or not, as long as it can be determined that the ads are accurate and verifiable.

"We think it may or may not be true for other media but we know it's not true about us, which is why we wouldn't take those spots," he said. "We know it's not accurate about how we approach our news and we didn't feel it was appropriate just to take someone's money. We weren't going to let them take a shot at us that wasn't warranted."
</snip>

Ironically enough, I think that the claim that media is misleading people is valid - but in the opposite way the ad intended.

Kudos to KSTP for getting one thing right (finally).

1. They're not airing iot only b/c it says the media is lying...
They don't say that they aren't airing it because it's false or blatant propaganda.

Good for them though... if only the other stations would follow suit. I'm sure CCO won't even consider it since they're fighting so hard for Feelenty's show to stay on air.

5. I'll take what I can get these days
It's good to know that there's SOMETHING a media outlet won't do for money.

4. I'm good
9 more weeks of law school... then the bar exam...
then I join the firm I'm working for as an associate attorney, working my trial lawyer magic.

How are you?

6. Congratulations!
Nine more weeks to go. Wow. When an acquaintance of mine took the exam, he went on a long road trip to try to take his mind off of the waiting, waiting, waiting. Break a leg on the exam.

I'm doing quite well. 2005 was a horrible year, but I'm very optimistic about 2006. :-)

Oh and congratulations on your brand new mayor. :bounce: :hi:

3. This is probably a good illustration of what can happen when a TV
station is not owned by a large corporation that has defense contracts.

7. They will probably air the second ad
as it is not attacking the media. The second ad is more "touchy-feely".

"The new ad features relatives of fallen soldiers. It includes a message delivered by Merrilee Carlson of St. Paul. Her son, Army Sgt. Michael Carlson, 22, was killed in Iraq in January 2005. KSTP has not been approached about selling airtime for that ad, but Hubbard said he would have no issue with the new message."

Last paragraph from above link.
