Sen. Dayton votes FOR Patriot Act renewal -- here's his statement.. |
|
... (and he's not even running for re-election....he could have taken a stand....
Dayton Votes to Reauthorize Patriot Act Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mark Dayton today voted in favor of compromise legislation to reauthorize the Patriot Act. The bill (S.2271) passed the Senate by a vote of 95 to 4. Today’s passage was the result of negotiations between Congress and the White House regarding an earlier version of the bill, which had raised bipartisan concerns about its potential effect on the privacy rights of law-abiding Americans. The compromise version of the bill, although not perfect, aims to address those concerns. The House of Representatives is expected to easily pass the same bill without amendments this week, whereupon it will go to the President to be signed into law. Senator Dayton’s statement on his vote to extend the Patriot Act is below. “I reluctantly voted for an extension of the Patriot Act, despite its significant flaws. I did so, because federal and local law enforcement officials in Minnesota have told me repeatedly that the Patriot Act’s provisions are critically important to their abilities to detect and prevent another terrorist attack against the United States. Protecting our citizens is the paramount responsibility of the federal government, and we must give our protectors the capabilities they need.”

1. Dayton sold us down the river |
|
He sided with snooping feds and cops and voted against the rest of us. Screw him. Maybe now we can elect a senator with some balls. Mark can spend the rest of his life protecting us from flag-burners.

But I have sent letters to Mark Dayton and our neighbor to the east, Russ Feingold about the Patriot Act. Abolishing it was a term I believed I used to both gentlemen.
In the letters, one each, I stated a simple plan, distance yourself from the rhetorec of the right, say something new. And defeating the patriot act would have been, that something new.
I stated that the argument would be simple also, that fascism is great for a dictatorship but not for the United States.
I think Homeland Security and the PA have been failures, so much so as to be errelevant. I mean Katrina is proof enough. Homeland Security is getting rediculous too, as far as it goes. A couple paid off a debt, the dept was large, and they paid it in full. The account was then seized for a short time. And in that time Homeland Security was informed.
Like I say, fascism is great for a dictatorship, but as of yet, I don't think we have one. But then again, under it all, I believe we actually do.
Look up Hegel Dialectic in a search engine, and be a bit surprised at a game that may be afoot.
