CALLS NEEDED BY THE END OF TODAY! Tomorrow morning the State Senate Tax Committee will act on a bill that seriously addresses the shortage of affordable housing by providing a permanent funding stream for the Minnesota Housing Trust Fund, Workforce Housing Challenge Program, and incentives to leverage more local government investment in affordable housing. Every time real estate is bought and sold in Minnesota, a deed tax of .33% of the property's value is assessed. SF 3516 would add a surcharge of only 0.17% to the current deed tax and provide a funding stream for affordable housing. For example, on the sale of property valued at $200,000, the new surcharge would be $340, paid by the seller. This surcharge would raise $69 million a year for affordable housing. Ask Senators on the Tax Committee to support Senate File 3516 - the Housing Solutions Fund. Tell them how you have seen the shortage of affordable housing impact your work, your life, or the lives of people you know.
The State Senate Tax Committee (listed below) is hearing the bill Thursday morning, April 6. Please call one of the Senators by the end of the day Wednesday. If your Senator is not listed, call one who is from your region. "Support Senate File 3516 - the Housing Solutions Fund" David J. Tomasson Dist 05 (651) 296-8017 Thomas M.
