Bachmann's stepsister opposes her effort
Lesbian disputes senator's work to ban gay marriage

BY PATRICK CONDON
Associated Press

No other state lawmaker has been more outspoken against gay marriage than Sen. Michele Bachmann, who for more than two years has led the effort at the Capitol to reserve the institution for heterosexual couples.

So when the Senate Judiciary Committee heard the Stillwater Republican's bill proposing a constitutional amendment against gay marriage Tuesday, it was perhaps no surprise that some of her family members were in the audience. But one surprise was where one of them was sitting — alongside fellow opponents of the ban.

Bachmann's stepsister, Helen LaFave of Minneapolis, is a lesbian. She did not testify at the hearing, in which senators rejected Bachmann's measure, but she said afterward that she felt it important to be there.

Bachmann said the nine siblings and stepsiblings united by their parents' marriage are split on the issue. "The vote is 6-3 in our family," she said.

1. So Bachmann's family agress with her by a 2 to 1 margin
Bachmann really is just a "one trick legislator", she can do nothing but whine about gay marriage with strawman arugments.

2. But it doesn't clarify how they are split-
It could be six opposed to the amendment and three in favor?

3. I read it as a bit of bragging from Bachmann
about it being 6-3. If she said 3-6, she probably would not take the time to mention it.

4. That's my guess. Otherwise Bacchanalia would have said.

7. The ugly stepsister uses politics to hurt her happy stepsister

Bachman was really exposed as nothing more than a backstabbing, family-hating nutjob when we found out that it's all about destroying her stepsister for the choices she's made.

No one could be more despicable than that kind of person.

Bachman is Cruella De Vil, nothing more.

Stepbrother says he hasn't talked to Sen. Bachmann about gay marriage

Regarding the article "Bachmann's stepsister opposes her effort (April 5)," Sen. Michele Bachmann makes a statement that is untrue. I am Bachmann's stepbrother and Helen La Fave's brother; Bachmann indicated that she's taken a vote count of our family concerning gay marriage. For the record, I've never spoken to Bachmann concerning gay marriage.

I had e-mailed Bachmann asking why she had to be the one carrying the torch on this issue knowing we have a gay sister. My concern for my family does not give Bachmann the right to assume she knows my feelings about gay marriage.

Maybe the reason "family-values" candidate Bachmann implies she took a family vote is so she doesn't have to explain why she chose to inject her family into this divisive subject that is now causing our family so much pain and discomfort.

9. This is looking like a personal vindictive act on Bachmann's part
Would she go to such great lengths to hurt a family member?

10. Short answer - yes

She's a nutcase who's acting out on her family members...

She doesn't need an amendment, she needs an intervention!

11. Remember these are stepsiblings
we can only guess what kind of family disfunction has been going on ever since the two families merged.
