Rudy Boschwitz can't whistle or drive worth a dink
There was an SUV in front of us on the way to visit my dad in Southdale hospital. Not one, but two Bush stickers. The driver was having tremendous difficulty deciding when and where they wanted to turn ... my brother was cursing him under his breath.

Anyway, the passengers because our companions in the elevator and the guy had a W lapel pin. I was trying to decide whether to ask him sincerely why he was voting for * or to make a joke of it when he started whistling extremely poorly. When we got off the elevator, he continued whistling much louder and not any better. By that time I was so irritated with the guy, I couldn't have said anything to him without sounding nasty, so I said nothing.

Later, my brother asked my mom if that had been Rudy Boschwitz - I had no idea who it was.

Wish I would have tried to speak to him. Would have been a cool story.

4. That picture must have been taken around the time
He first ran for senate in 1978. It brings back bad memories! I was in high school then, and seriously considered moving out of state after he was elected.
:puke:

2. It was such a pleasure
seeing Paul Wellstone kick his sorry ass not once, but TWICE.

Plywood Minnesota... direct from the factory, TO YOU! He and his sons can stick it, as far as I'm concerned.

3. 1990 was a blast!!!!
I remember Rudy avoiding the press on election night 1990, when it became clear that Wellstone was going to win, despite the predictions of the media (and even among many "loyal" DFLers).

Since Paul & Sheila's death, most people have forgotten how much of the party heirarchy was against Paul in 1990. He was second-guessed and disregarded all through the caucuses, until it became clear that he had the numbers necessary to win the endorsement on the first ballot.

I was priviledged to be a delegate to the 1990 convention, and was seated near the front-center of the podium where Paul made his acceptance speech. Even after the endorsement, many DFLers wrote off Paul as a lost cause, destined to defeat at the hands of Boschwitz. However, Paul and his campaign never gave up, and he won in the end.

Watching Boschwitz sweat out the returns in 1990 was well worth it!
