DFL Selects a very special guest speaker
Minnesota's DFL has selected Senator McCaskill as it's keynote speaker during the HHH dinnner.

Along with Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, she is one of two female senators in the 110th United States Congress freshman class. She is the first woman elected to the Senate from Missouri in her own right. I understand that Amy helped get her to come but here's the really interesting part....

Just today Senator McCaskill voted against the Dodd Feingold Amendment that would strike retroactive immunity for Bush's criminal telecomm cronies. In conjunction with an as-always lockstep GOP caucus-- McCaskill voted to legalize warrantless spying on the telephone calls and emails of Americans, and also provide full retroactive amnesty to lawbreaking telecoms, thus forever putting an end to any efforts to investigate and obtain a judicial ruling regarding the Bush administration's years-long illegal spying programs aimed at Americans.

Tickets are already on sale and they will sell out, so get yours today and don't miss this great opportunity to ask her why?

1. I'd love to ask her why but, as I recall, tickets to the HHH dinner
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 01:28 PM by dflprincess
are a bit pricey. Better we let the state office know we don't think she's worth the money and why (and cc: Klobuchar on it).

I called, spoke with "David" - the HHH Dinner organizer. I expressed my outrage over this poor choice. Couldn't they find a real Dem?

I would like to remind all here that Klobuchar voted "aye" on the Protect America Act.

3. Klobuchar voted to strip immunity. Obama voted to strip immunity. Hillary DID NOT VOTE.
Vote tallys here:

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=2&vote=00015

If this isn't proof that it will be business as usually under another Clinton presidency, I don't know what is. Like Obama says--it matters not whether you claim to be ready on the first day in office. It's whether you're RIGHT on the first day in office. And Hillary is dead wrong for missing this vote. What a spineless hack.

6. For once, Klobuchar did the right thing
and didn't vote with the Republicans. Maybe she's finally starting to get a clue.

4. Based on today's vote, I continue to support Amy Klobuchar.
I don't continue to support Claire McCaskill.

Nor do I have a great desire to hear Claire McCaskill give a speech.

With regard to asking Claire McCaskill about retroactive immuntiy, you only get to talk to her if you pay $2,500.00 for the Federal Reception.

Would she defend retroactive immunity for phone companies by saying
a) the Bush Admin tricked them (into destroying our privacy)
b) we want them to cooperate (with future unlawful schemes)
c) the phone companies were being patriotic
d) some new excuse I haven't heard before (I doubt it)

It's not worth $2,500 to me to get the answer.

7. Neither Obama nor Clinton voted on the final FISA bill
And lest we forget, Klobuchar voted to extend the eavesdropping program last August, saying it was only for six months. Guess what Amy? With the six-month extension that you approved last August, the Senate just voted to extend the eavesdropping program for SIX YEARS.

8. Thanks for your post.
We need to remember this when she asks for donations for reelection.

I don't contribute to, or campaign for candidates who vote to give away my civil liberties!

10. I care about civil liberties, and I'd donate to Klobuchar, again.
This week, she voted against retroactive immunity and against the final bill.

That's good enough for me.

No one is perfect.

11. That's your choice.
IMO, the PAA is one of the most onerous offenses against our civil liberties that has been perpetrated by the Bush administration. It was poorly written and passed in haste under the threat of a "terrorist attack". It was one more example of Democrats failing to stand for basic values. It was one more example of Democrats giving Bush everything he wants. All because some Democrats feel they have to react to fear by voting like Repugs.

I can't seem to convince myself that an 'aye' vote on PAA is a thing to be taken lightly.

9. Though she did vote against it this time
not that that excuses her original vote - but she seems to have gotton the message.

12. Is it true Tim Walz voted for immunity
I just can't believe it.

If it is true is Tim Walz a Republican lite or is getting money from the telecoms?
