Any information on Senate Race? |
|
I see the Minnesota senate race is suppose to be one of the closest in America. I sure hope that we can get a victory, and would like to hear the scoop about it. Here is a link I found to a nice senate map http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Senate/Maps/Feb12-s.htmlWe really need this 60% majority! Ames Vet

Thanks for sharing. It is always interesting to watch the races that are really contested. Some states are not likely to budge, but there are a fair number that could switch to Dem this time.
I am confident that our democrat is going to beat Coleman, what a weasel!

Electoral-vote.com is a great site. I got addicted to it during the 2004 election cycle.

Al franken hasn't been endorsed yet and it is quite possible that he won't be.

8. What makes you say this? |
|
Of course anything is possible before any sd conventions have chosen their delegates to go to state and endorse a candidate, but I have only seen polls that indicate Franken is leading amongst the dfl candidates.
Any links? or just a hunch?

9. I don't think the polls are contacting only those who are delegates to their conventions |
|
I believe they're calling "likey voters".

4. I am probably supporting... |

Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer. He is the strongest most liberal-anti-bush candidate in the field right now.

He's not even mentioned in most articles about the senate race.

Ceresi is already going after Franken pretty hard, though Franken does have a strong following, Ceresi is the sainted candidate of the Minnesota DFL old gaurd. So he will be cleaning up on super delegates and have the machinery of a lot of the party proper behind him.
They do a poor job of choosing candidates though having selected for governor, Roger Moe. While I personally kind of liked, wasn't progressive enough nor had a strong enough personality to run in a three way race with Ventura a bunch of years back. And then selecting Mike Hatch, who was a decent attorney general but was not the best person for the job and could not beat Pawlenty. The old gaurd seems to obsess with number crunching and picking safe, inoffensive candidates (when Wellstone first ran the old gaurd were really rather overwhelmed by his populist campaign).
However they have gotten fairly good at primary fights and will do their damnedest to pull Franken apart. The "liberal "media will collaborate with stories about how vicious the campaign for the senate primaries are and highlight some of the thrust and parry. Franken's poor debate performances will enable talk of him weakening and he will bleed support, none of which will go to Ceresi since the Franken sort will be first timers and not "conventional" enough to just back the supposed "Winner".
Enter Jack, who is a fiesty progressive-populist Democrat who is strong with the anti-war community and has been speaking up, not just about doing the obvious thing of beating Norm Coleman, but of brining this country back to more progressive values and speaking directly to populist issues-peace, the evnironment, education, the working class etc.
Of course this assumes Jack can break the media barrier a bit more.
