1. Unless he resigns as governor to run, then yes he does
Just like neither Obama or Clinton have resigned their Senate seats, so whoever loses will still remain a Senator.

...the general election, Pawlenty would have no reason to resign to run.

3. Pawlenty brings nothing to the table as V.P. except a state and party in disarray
Wayne Cox of MN Citizens for Tax Justice puts the whole thing into perspective better than anyone I've seen so far:
