Bob Olson Will Beat Michele Bachmann At Her Own Game
That's the title of the e-mail I just received from the Bob Olson for Congress campaign. I liked what I read, so I thought I'd post it here.

Dear Friend:

When I was the managing editor at the Stillwater Gazette three years ago, then-State Sen. Michele Bachmann let me in on the secret to her success in politics.

Voters don’t like the “mushy middle,” she told me in the summer of 2004. They’re looking for politicians willing to take a stand and mean it. It’s the philosophy she has lived by and it works.

Mrs. Bachmann wins election after election not because voters agree with her extreme and out-of-touch positions. Instead they respect that she stands for something. While her very talented and well-intentioned opponents get caught up in the politics of parsing—trying to be all things to all people—Mrs. Bachmann shows a “titanium spine” (her words) and wins. When given the choice between a candidate who shows convictions and one who gives the appearance of having none, voters will take strong and wrong each and every time.

We’re not going to beat Mrs. Bachmann in November by avoiding controversy, by watering down our beliefs or by flip-flopping from one county to the next. We need a candidate willing to take consistently strong stands on the big issues. That’s why I’m standing with and working for Bob Olson.

Bob Olson is the only candidate in the 6th District who had the foresight to oppose the Iraq War from the very beginning.

Bob Olson is the only candidate in the 6th District who has honestly and openly supported reproductive choice.

Bob Olson is the only candidate in the 6th District who hasn’t wavered in his support for the GLBT community.

Bob Olson is the only candidate in the 6th District with the private sector experience necessary to put our economy back on track.

Bob Olson is the only candidate in the 6th District who knows how to end our dangerous dependence on Middle Eastern oil.

And here’s the best part: He’s not afraid to say it. Whether speaking to a suburban audience in Woodbury or a rural audience in Wright County, Bob’s message stays the same.

I’ve spent the last eight months working for Bob. I wouldn’t have endured the terribly long hours and the ups-and-downs of a political campaign for this long if I didn’t believe in my heart and mind that Bob is the only candidate who can end the Michele Bachmann era once and for all.

We’re going to beat Michele Bachmann at her own game this fall. We’re going to stand for things (consistently) and we’re going to fight back without mercy against the right-wing hate machine.

This election can be about something different, about something better. But first we need to stand together and say business as usual is over. Against Michele Bachmann, the same old politics will produce the same old results. End of story.

If you’re looking for a candidate willing to stand toe-to-toe with Michele Bachmann and win in the fall, Bob Olson is your man. I encourage you to support him at your Senate District conventions. You won’t regret it.

P.S.: If you have any questions about Bob’s candidacy, you can call me directly at 612.423.2582 or e-mail me at chris@bobolson.org.
