Nelson-Pallmeyer trounced Ciresi in SD 52 Saturday |
|
Four Nelson-Pallmeyer delegates were elected to the state DFL convention from SD 52 in Stillwater this weekend. Ciresi got a lonely one delegate. Franken got 10- I think from several sub-caucuses. Two were uncommitted on that race.
Nelson-Pallmeyer gave a hell of a speech at the convention. I think he convinced more than a few undecideds on the spot. Considering what he's spent compared with the other two, he's done outstanding.
Nelson-Pallmeyer's surge seems to be the big story out there :bounce: and of course, our astute local dailies are oblivious to it. Can he possibly gather enough to block Franken's endorsement? Is anyone else counting delegates out there?

Sadly he only picked up about 3 or so delegates of 14 at senate 67. Franken took the lion share with Ciresi rather close to Jack.
However I suspect that Jack will come out just ahead of Ciresi in this race which might catapult him in a better position at the state convention. However I think it will be a tough fight to get the nomination for senate for either Jack or Ciresi.

2. I heard a rumor that Nelson-Pallmeyer did well in Duluth |
|
Ciresi always seemed rather bland to me. I was never impressed with him, even though he seemed to be the media-anointed challenger to Franken.
Even if Jack doesn't get the nomination, his being in it will make the race more interesting.

3. I agree that Jack will make it more interesting |

I also think having him in the race will make it clear how large a force the progressive wing is and hopefully several of our elected officials and candidates will take note of that.

4. You're right about that speech |
|
Didja see those five very young delegates standing at the back of our caucus, at the top of the stairs? They told me they had never heard of Jack before, but after he delivered that speech, they knew he was their guy. Friends of theirs were trying to peel them off to the Franken caucus, but they told me nothin' could budge them now.
The more people hear his message, the more converts he gets.

5. P.S. Jack got not four, but five delegates to Ciresi's one |
|
Remember the group of people that were sent to the cafeteria for their subcaucusing because they were residents of SD52 but not of CD6? That group produced one more delegate for Jack. He almost got both delegates from that group, but the need for gender balance prevented that.

7. This is exactly why it's so offensive that Franken presumes he's got it wrapped up |
|
How many more "Franken gals and guys" will be converted to Nelson-Pallmeyer between now and the state convention? Somehow, I don't think Al wants to find out.
