"How can they see with their eyelids frozen shut?"
-- spectator at mile 12 of today's Run for the Lakes marathon and half-marathon in Nisswa during a winter storm
Indeed, during the half, I found myself thinking things like:
*If I could only keep one eye open, everything would be fine.
*I hope someone really big passes me to block the wind.
*Where am I??
It was also the first race I could determine my place by counting the number of footprints in the snow ahead of me. And, as it turned out, my slowest half-marathon ever. Slower than the first time I ran one in high school, when it was the farthest distance I'd ever run. Of course, this time, since most of the other runners were rather large and wearing camouflage locals, I still managed to nab third place.
