1. Gawd, no!
Amy is a brand-new senator, elected in 2006, with no experience with anything other than being a county prosecutor. Worse, she voted for the Republicans' so-called "Protect America Act" -- one of only 16 Democrats to do so. She brings nothing to the campaign; Minnesota will go to Obama regardless. So far she's been hardly better than mediocre, caving in to the Republicans entirely too often. There are dozens of more qualified people.

In what universe is Amy Klobuchar an economic populist?

One of the possibilities that Sirota mentions was mentioned by my brother: Jim Webb, to counteract perceived weakness in military affairs--and yet, Webb was against the Iraq War.

5. Oh yes, the idea being that a military man who is against the war
has more credibility...

7. What Ocelot said ...
I'd just LOVE to have a veep who couldn't even muster the guts to vote against the Protect America Act. That's the sort of brave and inspiring leadership we need at this critical juncture.

Whoever suggested this was smoking some good shit and I want some of it.

LOL - you're probably correct about that.

I hereby withdraw my request to use the "good shit" to which I previously referred.

11. Putting a woman on the ticket who is NOT Hillary Clinton would really be overkill, wouldn't it?

Probably the most recognized and accomplished person available for the ticket already got roughly half the votes of all those cast by Democrats this nomination season. Reaching out and putting a different woman on the ticket would be a great way to say, "You know what - fuck eight years of peace and prosperity. Fuck the only link to the first President who provided real change from the status quo of Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and Bush. And by the way, fuck success, too."

That, and Amy Klobuchar has about the charismatic populist charm as plaster of paris.

13. I'm just hoping we at least wind up with a Democrat in the veep spot
If he were to pick Clinton I'd have a hard time voting for a ticket made up of 2 DINOs. The Clinton adminstration only looks good to me when compared to what came after it. Let's remember NAFTA, Welfare "Reform", the DLC and I don't trust all this palsy-walsy stuff with Poppy Bush.

18. And compared to what came before it

I'm not saying that Bill Clinton didn't make some mistakes, but he was a big difference from everyone who came before.

I don't think Obama will have the balls to make the "changes" necessary to turn things around like Clinton did.

He already comes off as an appeaser.

Fortunately, that won't happen.

15. I have never thought that a "unity ticket" - wheter Clinton/Obama
or Obama/Clinton was a good one.

Neither can match McCain experience as a military man (not that Kerry's helped, either) and, therefore, a military or a foreign relations person would complement either. Wes Clark, Jim Webb or Biden, though I really don't think that a two-senator ticket is a good one, either.

And I agree with you that putting a not-Hillary woman on a ticket for the sake of a woman is dumb.

16. McCain's experience as a military man helped get us stuck in a quagmire in Iraq.
