This is just ridiculous...
"'U' Wants Goldy Gone From Victoria's Secret Line"

http://wcco.com/local/goldy.gopher.university.2.756655.html

Snip>

" MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― The University of Minnesota's Goldy Gopher logo won't be appearing on Victoria's Secret apparel after campus officials decided the clothing line is out of step with the school's values."

I just don't get why they would make a big deal out of this...

Did they need something else to get all uptight about now that they had to shutup about the lightrail route?

3. If by "campus officials" they mean the regents...
They have always been a bunch of hoidy-toidy doofi. They all drink tea with their pinky pointed out too.

4. Maybe they should take a walk round campus...
on a warm spring day when classes are in session and take a look around...

I want them to show me the schools values on display?

5. They probably walk around the campus often when the weather is warm
telling each other how shocked they are. Kind of like O'Reilly will replay a tape of scantily clad young girls over and over - just to prove how "outraged" he is by it.

Snarky? Moi?

11. If the Regents are going to worry about this, why don't
they do something about Goldy's obvious steriod use?

from the marching band's website http://www.music.umn.edu/marchingband/history/goldy.html:

"Until the early 1970's the head was narrow and pointy-nosed. Then in 1972, Goldy suddenly grew chubby cheeks and a wider, forward-looking face, almost cherubic in appearance. in fact, the gopher of the '70's and early '80's was comparable in appearance to a teddy bear, a favorite of children and grandmothers. For a brief period in 1985, a fierce-looking 'mega-rodent' appeared, with barrel chest, clown feet and sinister eyes. This look didn't last long, and Goldy soon again became a lovable, friendly character."

Sure, he's lovable in public but what's he like in the locker room? Look at the size of his chest and arms - you ever see a gopher that looked like that?

And from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldy_Gopher

The mascot's appearance morphed over the years, and around the late 70s and early 80s, became more aggressive looking..

I'm about as conservative a dresser as you will find in Minnesota, and I still shop V.S. for some things. They have more than bras. Here's the collegiate page:

17. hahahaha
i support this. i hate the vs line of sweatpants and junk.

and really, if you go to the bookstore you'll see products really similar to those described. i think maybe they're worried more about lost revenue rather than the delicate reputation of the university's ladies.
(i'm a student there, ps)

19. You support this?
really?

You support the regents of the school imposing their values on you as a student?

What would you say if they said, no students are allowed to drink?

How about the regents decide to ban girls and boys being together without an adult chaperone?

Girls and Boys dorms seperated?

how about if they mandated that in order to get your financial aid you had to attend a church service they approve of, every sunday?
