1. It is our scheduled day
I would like to, and have planned for it.

DFL Princess posted info about the DFL BBQ this saturday evening as well, so...

Looks like we need to do some planning.

2. I can't make a noontime meeting, but I could make a late afternoon event
Not necessarily the DFL picnic, which will undoubtedly be a mob scene, but something else.

3. I think at $25.00 a ticket for the DFL picnic
we should find something cheaper to do.

4. I am not sure how much more money I want to give the DFL anyway
Does anyone have any ideas for a meetup later in the day?

We could always meet at Spyhouse and then get dinner.

There's so much of Eat Street left to explore.

And I shall have already had picnic food at noon.

12. How about 4:30 so we can sit around for a while and then...
find a restaurant early to beat the Saturday night dinner rush.

15. Okay, so it's the Spyhouse coffee place thingy at 4:30pm?
Then an early dinner?

This is good; I can make the drive-in movie.

Hmmm.. the Vali-Hi is playing Get Smart, Hancock, and The Incredible Hulk for $7.50. Sounds like a plan if the weather cooperates.

Um, where is the Spyhouse coffee place thingy, anyway?

I'm parallel parking impaired so I tend to have some problems finding a place to leave the car in that area.

20. If you don't mind walking a couple of blocks, the residential streets
that run parallel to Nicollet often have spaces. I'll take the bus is the schedule works out.

24. I drove all over the neighborhood last time
I eventually got lucky on 25th or 26th Street and found a couple open spaces - which made it easier. I had passed several single car slots but, as I said, I'm parallel parking impaired (I live in the 'burbs, we have lots).

I know there's a Nicollet bus that runs from Bloomington all the way downtown, I'll have to check it's weekend schedule. On weekdays it only runs once or twice an hour.

Ah, okay, so they are both basically on Nicollet Ave.

If memory serves, Bad Waitress is on the southeast corner of E. 27th and Nicollet, yes?

Is the Spyhouse on the east or west side of Nicollet?

I'm trying to get my Google Earth placemarkers exact... :-)

30. I'm at the Spyhouse already (3:30PM) because I came directly
from my noontime obligation and decided to get some work done in the time remaining.

I'm sitting near the front window, typing on a MacBook (which is hardly an identifying mark in this place. I can see six computers from where I'm sitting, and five of them are Mac laptops of some sort. :-)

32. My car is in trouble!

I was driving down to meet you guys there when smoke started pouring out from underneath my hood! So I pulled over and popped the hood (breaking off my hood decoration in the process, dammit) and saw smoke streaming out of my A/C compressor.

I decided to turn around and head back home before something bad happened. In my car, there is only the one fan belt, so if the compressor's bearings had locked up the belt would burn up and I'd lose the water pump, power steering, and the alternator, meaning it would be time to call AAA. I decided not to risk it.

When I got home the smoke had stopped, so I think it was just the clutch, not the bearings itself. If true, then I can drive the car as long as I don't turn on the A/C. But now I have to let it cool off, then go out there, remove the fan belt, and check and see how the compresssor's bearings are.

Damn, I'm pissed! My kid's in South Dakota, so I could have spent all the time I wanted to with you guys talking about stuff, then gone to the drive-in movie. *sigh*

I can't curse the car, though. 192,000 miles on it, so I guess I have to be grateful it's lasted this long. But, man, no A/C in the summertime???

40. Well, it's kind of hard to be modding with a cat on your lap
But I managed!

I'm going to look at it today. It probably was just the clutch. It it was, I'm going to go look at a used car in Golden Valley, then since I'm down there anyway I'll hit the drive-in tonight.

But coffee and dinner with DUers would have been icing on the cake!

Not only that, there were real Latino people among the customers, not just drunken college kids, like you see in some "Mexican" places.

44. No, it's how I rate authenticity
If some of the patrons of the restaurant are of the same nationality as the food purports to be, that means it's pretty authentic.

I thought of calling LL's phone, but with 35W closed north of the crosstown yesterday, I would have had to take surface streets for quite a ways. Between that and needing to pull myself together I figured it would be after 6:30 before I got there.
