Sounds like McCain chooses Pawlenty...

http://ww3.startribune.com/blogs/prezfight/

Update: On this morning’s Chris Mathews Show, conservative pundit (and Obama acolyte) Andrew Sullivan flatly predicted that not only is Pawlenty The One, but that McCain’s already made the decision. The transcript, via the Huffington Post:

SULLIVAN: I think the vice-presidential picks are both going to be boring and underwhelming. We hope for a big moment, but actually…neither candidate wants to mix their brand up with another strong brand. I think that Pawlenty will probably be McCain’s number two - I think he’s already made that decision, actually - and I think Obama has yet to pick, but he doesn’t want someone that will outshine him.

MATTHEWS: So that ticket is going to be known as good and Pawlenty.

Comment 1: What does it say about Pawlenty if he doesn't outshine McCain?

Comment 2: Its a win-win for Pawlenty, he remains as Minnesota's governor if McCain loses. If McCain wins we get a resurrection of Carol Molneau (YIKES!)

1. Andrew Sullivan seems to just be speculating.
He doesn't seem to have inside information.

2. Feelenty wont bring anything new.
He might be the only one dumb enough to accept. What does that say? Ran for VP and got crushed. Good luck timmy.

3. Someday one of his kids could turn into a liberal Democrat,
get a radio show and talk about her dad running with McCain and losing in a landslide. Maybe even make some jokes about remembering the time her dad left her mother withering on the floor with appendicitis while he took a shower.

4. Pawlenty brings absolutely NOTHING to the ticket.
Well, other than someone who could be expected to live the full 4 years of a term in office.

Electoral votes? Yeah, go to town on Minnesota's 10. Yippee! Even with Pukelenty on the ticket there's no guarantee he'd win this state.
Geographic balance? Tell me who cares about the upper midwest.
Compensating for McLame's economic weaknesses? Pawlenty knows even less, ruining this state's good credit rating with his ridiculously unsound budgets and planning.

It would be a dream come true (for us!) if Pukelenty WAS picked, it would (if anything) further sink McLame's chances.

5. Well, if McCain is supposed to be the GOP fall guy this cycle
Then why not choose Pawlenty? It would mean that the Gov's upward movement in the party will hit a glass ceiling. Remember the current GOP base is much farther to the right (real wing-nut territory from talk radio et al) than much of the party, epically in rural Minnesota. Many will not say it publicly (though one county came out if I remember this past spring) but they dislike Coleman, and Pawlenty just barely got re-elected so most are still not too high on him.

6. Given McLame's health, how long before he becomes 'President Pawlenty'?
Given the current state of Minnesota, how difficult would it be to convince people he's not the best candidate?

7. But the Repukes like the job he's done in Minnesota
Besides, even if Pawlenty became president, do you really think he'd be anything but a puppet? We don't call him Timmy the Tool for nothing.
