Who else thinks this Vreeland story is bullshit?
I'm sorry, but I can't make heads or tails of the posts that are trying to convince me that the baddies are going to nuke the Twin Cities during a Vikes game because of something that happened in Hungary a half century ago. I'm sure all the cabalistic numerology is mighty amusing for the tinfoil hat gang, but to me it all sounds like a steaming pile of bovine excrement.

I got enough shit to be stressed out about without some nutcake who got arrested by Iowa cops trying to keep me awake at night.

4. A little background
"We discovered that the note that Vreeland wrote in jail could not have possibly been interpreted as a warning of anything. We discovered that during the time he was supposed to have been in Moscow uncovering the 9/11 plot he was actually in the custody of police in St. Thomas, Ontario. We discovered that his navy records indicate that he didn't make it through basic training and that he presented false identification when he signed up. We found evidence that he didn't graduate high school. We discovered that the alleged relentless drug dealer was actually Vreeland's brother-in-law. We found that Vreeland had an extensive criminal record, having spent the majority of his adult life in jail and that he was wanted in at least six states. We found the victims of the alleged frauds which Vreeland is accused of committing in Michigan and many people in law enforcement who related details of Vreeland's alleged crimes."

6. Here's some background -
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 07:06 PM by higher class
Started Friday with information about the arrest of a questionable character who is or was ONI Officer Naval Intelligence. Arrested in Iowa. Claims to have warned of 9-11. Implies that something is going to happen in the 'twin cities' - with references to a liberal city with many Catholics. Both true (or used to be) in regards to Minneapolis and St. Paul.

The discussion threads are kind of hard to follow, but informative at the same time.

They appeared between Friday, the 22nd and today, the 25th.

Here is a link information about Vreeland’s arrest.

Newspaper (one of several)
http://theoaklandpress.com/stories/102204/loc_20041022025.shtml

This is a one person’s write up with other links.

Blog – (condensed from discussions)
http://rigorousintuition.blogspot.com/2004/10/its-probably-nothing.html

The person's statement is combined with a statement that humvees, tanks, earth movers, and trucks were moved out of an armory in or near Minneapolis. Some convoys were seen moving in a direction away from the cities. No times, no dates. No armory name.

12. the Arden Hills armory story is total horseshit
First of all, I think the NG is hardly even using that site anymore.

Secondly, there's no way they could mount some kind of military convoy out of there without causing a complete traffic meltdown on 694, which you know would be all over the news

Thirdly, if the governmen knew that the Twin Cities were about to get nuked, do you really think their only priority would be to try to save a bunch of aging military transport equipment that belongs to the Minnesota Nat'l Guard? Don't you think that we might be hearing stories about the federal reserve branch moving out - something like that, anything like that?

13. Sen Mark Dayton would be all over this if there was any legitimacy
to it. It seems to be baseless fear mongering and makes me furious.

14. Exactly. Why would Sen. Dayton move his office TO the Twin Cities
if there was an eminent threat TO the Twin Cities. It makes me furious as well.

15. IIRC there's nothing there anymore-- it's a superfund site
They used to have some stuff stored there, but I believe that was all moved/destroyed in the late 80s/early 90s.

All I know about the old armory site now is that they're trying to redevelop it, but it's still in serious need of a toxic waste cleanup. And, due to the fact that the federal superfund $$ is drying up, there's little chance it will get cleaned any time soon.

This story smells a little too tinfoil hatty for me. I mean, we're talking Minneapolis here-- NOT D.C., L.A., Chicago, etc. We're nothing. Who the hell gives a good fsck about us?

7. What a crock
It's utter nonsense based on the "friend of a friend saw/heard something" "evidence" that is typical of pretty much any urban legend you ever heard.

What I resent is that DUers can sit and argue the finer points of what Vreeland did or didn't do with not one iota of concern for us DUers who live here and are presumably threatened with immanent annihilation. I don't notice where anyone who believes this has made any attempt to warn us. Thanks for nothing.

11. I agree, LB.
They are discussing the Twin Cities as if it is some sort of ethereal place, and not the home of fellow Duer's. It makes me sick. Take care, Love Bug. :hi:

9. I'd like to say thanks
to all of you who are debunking this. I read it yesterday and it kind of started to get to me. I was thinking maybe I should just get in my car and drive away for a while. Wouldn't really be a prudent thing to do tho so I put my tinfoil hat back in its box and, well, all we can do is keep on keeping on, right?

10. no kidding, the next week is giving me enough anxiety as it is
and now that there may be a vacancy on the Supreme Court bench! Ay-yi-yi!
:scared:

I'm pretty skeptical, but it's hard to let something that specific and that morbid get to you.

16. I agree-- it was VERY irrisponsible of some people on that thread
I finally got pissed off and tried to cut thru the BS-- it kind of worked.

I used to work a block away from the Mall, between it and the airport. I watched all the planes landing at MSP on 9/11 from my office window after the grounding order went out. I still have many friends at my old workplace, and would hate to see something happen to any of them-- or anyone else for that matter.

I guess some people don't realize that the Twin Cities are a REAL place with 3 million people living here. How sad.

I'm sure the fact that we're still standing would be a bit of disappointment to some in GD. :eyes:
